XenoFlow is an open source Windows application that is useful for managing optical discs containing multimedia files.  It collects, stores, and retrieves physical characterisics from multimedia files and tracks what disc a file is located on. XenoFlow is designed to collect as much useful information describing a file as possible with the least amount of manual effort.

The disc cataloging and tracking features help index files for large collections of audio and video files stored on various media (such as CDR, DVDR, and hard disks).  After a disc containing files has been imported into the database the built in browser can be used to retrieve the stored information or launch the file in a media player.

XenoFlow also functions like other useful codec identification tools such as GSpot which display useful information about a file. The additional benefit is that XenoFlow stores the results in the database for viewing at any later point in time. This is a useful feature if your into audio or video mashing and need to keep track of a variety of source clips.

Some of the XenoFlow features include:

  • Automatically extracts, catalogs, and allows browsing of information from AVI, MKV, MPEG-1 (includes MP3), MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Ogg/Ogm, ASF/WMV/WMA, and WAVE files.
  • Information such as the resolution, playback bitrate, and codec type are extracted and stored in a database.
  • Keeps track of what CDR, DVDR, or fixed drive a file is physically located on.
  • Each CDR/DVDR or fixed drive is assigned a unique volume serial number that can be used to locate files stored on the media.
  • Files can be queued and played in a media player by a simple right menu click operation.  The media player to use is user selectable.
  • Media filenames can be renamed to an easily recognizable name. The original file name is stored permanently and can be restored on demand.
  • Provides notification of potential data integrity issues for optical storage by keeping track of when a file has exceeded a given lifespan from when the disc was originally created.
  • Scanlations of paper based media in JPEG and PNG format can be imported into the database. Currently unpacked files are supported but support for RAR and ZIP compressed archives is under investigation. Static images such as boxcovers can also be imported.
  • Subtitles can be imported into the database. Subtitle streams contained in most video containers along with standalone VobSub and SRT subs are supported.
  • Stores text in Unicode to allow maximum flexibility.
  • All information is stored in a supplied open source database (Firebird) that is SQL-92 compliant.
  • An easy to use install/uninstall program is provided.

Some of the XenoFlow requirements are:

  • Note: XenoFlow runs on Windows XP only and requires the .NET V2.0 Framework. It will not run on Windows 2K or any earlier versions of Windows. This software is a beta version. Always backup the database files frequently, do this by making copies of the .FDB database files. Download the .NET 2.0 framework here.
  • 1 Ghz or greater CPU and 256 Meg memory. It is highly recommended that you run a machine with no less than the recommended minimum speeds in order to have reasonable response times from the application.
