BitTorrent has really gone mainstream in the last 2-3 years, the Mac OS has a nice list of applications to take advantage of this, some of them are freeware and some are commercial. This list shows you the Top 5 BitTorrent clients for the Mac OS that we recommend. UPDATED October 19th, 2011

1. uTorrent

Hands down the best Mac OS BitTorrent client uTorrent for Mac was first released back in 2008, and a stable version 1.0 appeared last July. It sports many of the features BitTorrent users have come to expect from a BitTorrent client:

Transmission 1.60 Beta 1 Released

Adds optional startup port randomization, transfer prioritization, and more.

Transmission is one of several popular Mac BitTorrent clients, which includes XTorrent and BitRocket among others. It’s developers recently announced the release of version 1.60 Beta 1 for users to test out in advance of a new stable update.

Some of the more popular new features is the choice of a port randomization on startup and prioritization of download transfers.

Changes include:

Option to specify if transfers are included in the global bandwidth limits

Groups (moved to preferences) can be auto-assigned to transfers when adding based on multiple criteria

Fresh out of BETA, the MAC BitTorrent client server revs up as it’s finally unleashed on the BitTorrent community.

Now I’m no “MAC guy” but, even I can appreciate a beautiful looking program when I see one.

It’s sleek user interface, and fresh, clean-looking design make Azureus and uTorrent look dated and clunky. It shows just what kind of disparity we usually see when stacking Windows and MAC programs alongside of one another. It’s beauty and the beast for the umpteenth thousandth time.
