Trying to harness the full power of P2P technology, the new Ares version 1.9.4 now offers BitTorrent support as well.

Limewire was another notable P2P file-sharing program that recently began to offer BitTorent support as well.

Ares use to run on the Gnutella network as Limewire does but, switched to its own network with a leaves-and-supernodes architecture six months after its creation back in 2002.

The updated Ares is just as easy to use as before. You can either search the files already offered on the network or you can use it to open BitTorrent torrent trackers from your favorite public or private torrent tracker site.

Here’s a few pictures below to give you an idea of what the updates look like.

The first is of a sample download of a Chinese(?) sitcom. It loads and runs as effortlessly as it does in the updated version of Limewire.

The next picture is of a sample search for that great new movie “The Departed” using the Ares network. Again, it’s quick and easy to use.

All in all I’m starting to like these new P2P clients more and more. They allow you to have the best of both worlds, of BitTorrent and these other P2P networks
