i had the free build for 2 years and never a problem i think its because limewires servers went down not that acqusition went down because it only connected to limewires servers so hopefullt they make their own servers and put an end to the problem and for the whole sharing i buy music when i have money for it or if i know i will enjoy it but when i dont know the band or cant affored to pay for music i use p2p

Acquisition, which is made by the same people as Limewire, uses Limewire’s networks so like limewire it also will no longer be able connect to any servers. Limewire has just been faced by a permanent injunction by a US federal court, because of pressure from the music industry and the RIAA. This injunction requires Limewire by law to shutdown all of its networks.
I had it working about a month ago, for a day, no luck since. I too wish Acquisition would be forthcoming as to why it's not connecting. Did the go offline because they're afraid they'll be brought to court and/ or terminated?
I have been using Acquisition for over 6 years, and I just bought it for my daughter. Bummer. It was only a matter of time as I am sure he wasn't paying royalties to the musicians. As much as I hate to say it, I don't blame the record companies.
This bites it. I'm in Canada, where due to overly intrusive government interference, it is not technically possible to illegally download music. Oh, you can grab all the free music you want, bu since the government collects a royalty on the sale of all blank media (drives, CD's DVD's flash memory etc), that supposedly is paid back to the record companies, Canadians have already paid for the music that they would have us believe we are stealing. BS. At least bit torrents still work....

ya know.....ppl who create music nowadays dont give a crap about what there singing. Music used to reach out to ppl and touch them, ppl would sing for "free" from there hearts and write there own music now they have other ppl right it and all they care about is the stupid money. They already have sooo much money why dont they chill out and share their music with us for free!!???
Sharing music is no different than sharing books. An author created a story or did a ton of research and wrote it down same as a song writer writes and records music. These thing are by definition made for consumption on a large scale. You don't see authors screaming from rooftops demanding that everyone buy their own personal copy of their book. That's asinine. Guess we should shut down public libraries too, huh?

You are taking music that someone or some band has spent tons of time/effort/money making and using it without contributing zilch to the process, because you think you should not have to pay for it and are then making it even worse by sharing your illegal copies with others. Sorry, but wrong is exactly what that is.
But if I borrow a book from the library and read it I'm not contributing anything to the author either, and neither is the next person that checks the book out, or the next? How is it different with music?
They have photocopiers in Libraries even though the disclaimers says no reproduction without permission. Why aren't they going after them. Money talks bulls**t walks.
Been using Acquisition for many years, and Napster before that, I believe in sharing, and that's not wrong!!! Now..... nothing, so sad Come on somebody, come up with something new!!! Acquisition should not continue selling memberships if the service doesn't work!!! There's a lawsuit right there. Shut Down already then Acquisition if you can't handle the heat!!

I have been using acquisition for almost a year now and it won't connect now either. like everyone else suspects, i believe it has something to do with limewire shutting down. im so mad! Same issue here with Acquisition not connecting. I have been using Acquisition for years and this seems to be related to the limewire shutdown. I tried to download the free version, but there is nothing to open just blank document..Has this happened in the last week or so? I have emailed Acquistion as well, with no response...
I too have not been able to connect and because of the timing of the ruling (October 28, 2010) am guessing it has everything to do with the Limewire lawsuit and not our computers. I am very much an amateur and know very little about this kind of thing, but when it did work I noticed that any Peers (the other computers through which I could be connected at any one time) would always be listed as "Limewire" and then some type of ID number.
I too cannot connect to acquisition.i uninstalled the program and when i looked to reinstall it i found that there is no free version anymore? maybe this is the problem. limewire shutdown, and frostwire confuses me. anybody know any other sites that are GREAT for MACS?

Limewire was shut down this week. I can only guess that that's why acquistion no longer works. I've used it for years and today it's not connecting.
looks like "they" have "broken" it... I saw some notice about the record labels closing down another P2P app. :( perhaps the ride is over... shame, but then again, the artists making the music DO deserve to get some compensation....
I've had Acquisition for well over 5 years (and paid for it). Every once in a while it would stop connecting for a day or so (I assume they're just random kinks), but I can't remember it happening for quite a few days. I really hope it's not connected to Limewire being shut down.
The Limewire Injunction hit at 5:47 pm on 26 October and is on the Limewire Website. Acquisition was specifically mentioned in it as well as every other P2P Client Software. Acquisition stopping a few days ago is too much of a coincidence.............
I just bought the program as well, and i re checked that all the ports were open and working..it says all mapping was done automatically on the preferences, but it wont connect..the bar just stays red. anyone know the issue?

as most (if not all p2p sharing programs) of these programs operate on users having the file(s). the like senario would be.... the first 6.12GB some dude had, the last 800MB he didnt, and ur stuck with some poor dillhole either limiting upload or just plain have a sucky connection. most ppl seems to think p2p or any other from of downloading comes with some sort of download-fairy" ... it doesnt. if no1 shares it , or at crappy speeds. the fairy wont come to ur aid and magically boost ur download speed (i wonder why its never about uploadspeeds...... hehe)
Hey! I really need some help.. I have (was suposed to) downloaded a 6,2GB file and it went fast all the way, untill... it stopped on 6,12gb. And now it says that the download speed is on 0,0-0,4kb/sec. I have downloaded other files at the same time and they went fast, but not the big file.. Are there any size-limits on the download if your not liscensed? Greatfull for answers :)

I have acquisition, but after the first twenty or so songs i download, they start to take fifteen minutes for each song to download. Does anyone else have this problem or have a solution?

You have to go to your applications folder after you click on your macintosh HD icon & pull it over to your toolbar from the applications folder. That should work!
Drew, I have been using this program for over 4 years with no, I repeat no problems. I love it! Best file sharing program on the web!! I wish it was available for PC's. Does anyone know of a good file sharing program to use with a PC?
