Overnet is a skinnable distributed network file sharing program using its own network. The distributed state means no central server, no weak point, no bottle necks. Downloads are speedy with the MFTP protocol pioneered and perfected within eDonkey2000. This protocol downloads from multiple sources simultaneously, guaranteeing corruption free downloads with unique hash generation, and checks at regular intervals. Share links to specific files on the network with friends and family with the ED2K links, compatible with both eDonkey and Overnet. Overnet is compatible with the Windows, Linux and Mac OSX operating systems. With both a Graphical Client and a command line client under windows, and command line clients for both Linux and MacOS. Overnet is a decentralized peer-to-peer computer network, usually used for sharing large files (e.g., movies and CD images). Overnet implements the Kademlia algorithm. It is the creation of Jed McCaleb, the creator of eDonkey2000. The two clients are merged, although Overnet is still available without the server addon of eDonkey2000. As of early 2006, the network had approximately 570,000 concurrent users.

who the hell is the one that is writing these intro's to these p2p programs........ they keep claiming no spyware and adware....... but yet they all seem to get even more encoded into them when they get upgraded........ hey i wonder if you all are getting to paid to say that shit on these diff p2p's or you just one of the programmers that worked on the project....... ya should be disappointed in yourselfs for knowing you are fucking up other peoples shit when they just want some free shit ............. i wouldnt be surprised for typin this in that i get banned or some pissed off payed employee decides to make me have to reformate my shit |

I have used Overnet in the past. The recent versions have spyware like I have never seen before. It has about five different spyware programs that go and ftp more spyware, put programs in your startup, modify explorer so the spyware comes up whenever you use explorer etc. I got rid of most of it after hours of work, and still have some IE spyware junk, even though I got rid of some of the IE stuff. Absolutely horrible spyware. The worst I've ever seen. Look for a clone and use that, or use some other p2p network. Bittorrent has faster downloads anyhow. |

works fine for me and i had tryed emule, kazaa and kazaa light before, but overnet gave me the fastest downloads and best search results... yes, some firewalls have a problem with it... yes, the upload-download-ratio is a bit tough when looking for rare files... but still, you'll at least get your stuff!!!PS and i also never had stability problems... must be your system that's crashing...!!! |

WARNING: Don't you install this crap! So many spyware and viruses it contains! I never seen it before. My ISP almost banned me because the viruses activated and spread activity over the Internet. No offline "uninstallation" is allowed. Never seen such a cheeky application! Just look at the Add/Remove Programs section how many parts are installed. They are carefully hidden on your disk, eating your resources (CPU and bandwith). Just run NETSTAT tool to see how many connections are ongoing. F*** THIS CRAP! |

overnet kicks ass its one of the best p2p second from bittorrent and there is a plugin for it. Its still in its testing stage but has potental speeds are great and the content is very good. I give it five thumbs up... |

I had tried overnet quite a while before and while the content and speed were decent, I found it quite buggy. it would freeze up, and I would get these "overnet has encountered a problem and needs to close"warnings all the time. thats was about a year ago so I figured I would try it again to see if these things had been worked out. my results???AVOID OVERNET LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! WHY??again,,the content and speed were decent, but my pc was running so slow I thought it had frozen a number of times!! I figured out it was overnet causing this so I shut it down!!! or so I thought? my pc was still behaving all gimpy so I used system task manager to check and see what the problem might be.. lo and behold,,,, even though I had shut it down?? overnet was using up 80 to 90% of my system resources!!what is up with that?????? personally,,,when a program won't shut down when I want it to I start to feel a little creepy and like my privacy has been invaded.I tried to uninstall it using add/remove in the control panel and it said "an instance of over net was found running you have to shut it down or not all of overnet will be removed" so I said yes ok shut it down. my pc couldn't shut it down!!!! what are those ?????? characters at overnet doing with my computer??? don't know about you but I find this a little scary!!so in conclusion!!!! I say!!!OVERNET IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BIG VIRUS/TROJAN DISGUISED AS A FILE SHARING CLIENT!! AVOID IT LIKE THE POX!!!THANKYOU!! |

I seem to be consistently running about 15 to 1 uploads to downloads. Seems like someone is getting a free ride, but it sure isn't me. The partner concept is an interesting idea, but why should I be partnered with someone who is just starting their download and has nothing to offer me? Here's the rub ... try downloading a file that is not being actively downloaded by others (ex. a 3-week old TV show), there may be plenty of files available, but you will NEVER get to any of them! The hash checksum is genius, but unless the transfer algorithm is altered to attempt to equalize inflows with outflows, this client is fatally flawed. |
