Separately, the company said it has fixed a glitch that allowed consumers to circumvent its copy protection using a [...]
$0.75-per-decoder charge for MP3 decoders
Slashdot says, “Since Thomson Multimedia [and] the Frauenhofer Institute has decided to press the $0.75-per-decoder charge for MP3 decoders mentioned earlier today, there are probably a lot of people suddenly more interested in other formats. I favor the Xiph Foundation’s Ogg Vorbis; Xiph CEO Emmett Plant has written his thank-you note to Thomson Multimedia.”

Interesting article w/ a different perspective on the issues of the day:

In Germany there is an interesting discussion going on about the online music service Weblisten.com. Is it legit or not?
The German record companies state that Weblisten has no rights to offer mp3 [...]
7% slide in CD sales – ha ha
The BBC are running an article about “A war is being fought between record company bosses and computer users for the future of music.”
As compact disc sales slide, previously bland industry events have started to provide pulpits for industry figures to launch increasingly strident attacks on the websites that could soon deprive them of a [...]
