ISP shuts down site after receiving DMCA takedown request, never mind that it never actually hosted any copyrighted material.
UPDATE 1/20: SITE NOW BACK UP!
RLSLOG for many, myself included periodically, was a great destination for keeping up with the latest and greatest movies, music, and software releases for BitTorrent. It had a brief review of each, and included both screenshots, if applicable, as well as a link to a torrent tracker on a third party site to download them.
Now it appears that it has caught the attention of anti-piracy outfit Websheriff who improperly managed to get the site shut down by its ISP after receiving a DMCA takedown request.
From the site:
RLSLOG is currently offline.
our website and forums were/are DDoSed. in addition to that, our bandwith provider shut down the servers after (incorrect) takedown request from web sherrif. we are working on the issue.
Being that the site never actually hosted any copyrighted material, and that even if it had hosted the torrent trackers to content that even they aren’t copyrighted, RLSLOG should have no problem getting its ISP to flip the switch back on.
Websheriff, like so many other anti-piracy companies, seems to feel no discomfort in twisting the law to suit its own economic interests.
Linking to material on third party sites is no way illegal. Just ask Google.
