Or 10% of entire population.
According to a recent study, at the beginning of this year nearly 700,000 Swedes regularly used P2P file-sharing programs and services. It also noted that some 38%
"More than a third of all men aged 16 to 24 used a P2P file-sharing program during the first quarter of 2008," said the report by Statistics Sweden, the government agency responsible for producing official statistics on Sweden.
"Among all surveyed ages the corresponding proportion is approximately one out of 10," it added.
Sweden, which has about nine million people, counted over 685,100 file-sharers during the first three months of the year, according to the study, which was based on a poll of 3,837 people between April 7 and June 9.
"The number of women using peer-to-peer file sharing is less than half than that of men," the statistics agency said, adding that among women aged 65 to 74 there were no users of the programs.
The study results occur as the Swedish govt says it is drafting a new anti-P2P law that will allow copyright holders to pursue those sharing music and movies illegally.
The proposal, based on the European Union’s Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive (IPRED), and scheduled to take effect April 1st of next year, makes it possible for copyright holders to seek a court order to require ISPs to divulge the names of individuals accused of sharing copyrighted material illegally.
Companies can then seek damages from the file-sharers in court.

would say women file sharers are growing
” The number of women using peer-to-peer file sharing is less than half than that of men,” the statistics agency said, adding that among women aged 65 to 74 there were no users of the programs. ”
does it take ph.D to figure this anomaly? The “men” are busy downloading all the porn and trying it out on their girlfriends/wives. The ladies are too tired from all this passionate love. There, that was very easy.
Actually the figure is 10% for the ENTIRE population. its 38% for 16 to 24yo men.
The percentage of 10% threw me for a second until I saw that it is for men aged 16 to 24.
It would have helped to have a graph/chart or two breaking things out a little better.
