5 iPhone Health Apps to Keep You in Shape

iPhone health apps that help you track your exercise, eating, mood and sleep.

If you have better things to spend money on than a gym membership and personal trainer, you don’t have to resign yourself to the couch potato life. Below are a list of iPhone health apps that cover all the necessary aspects of health, including your sleep patterns, nutrition, moods and workout progress; the only thing you have to do is get up and get moving.

Runkeeper

The Runkeeper app is a jogger’s best friend. Using your iPhone’s GPS technology, the app maps your route, how long you run for, your pace and how many calories you burn. Set up a profile on the Runkeeper website and you can track your statistics, share your progress with friends and post updates straight to Facebook or Twitter. Runkeeper will also provide an audio commentary on how you’re doing compared to previous runs and provide coaching for interval workouts. The app itself is free but you need to purchase a separate monitor if you want to measure your heart rate too.

Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock

If you’re tired of dragging yourself out of a deep sleep to turn off the alarm, the Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock app might help your mornings run a little smoother. This app monitors your movements while you sleep and uses them to analyze your sleep patterns. It then waits until you are in your lightest sleep phase before waking you up, leaving you feeling more refreshed than you would if you’d awoken from a deep sleep. Simply choose a 30-minute window in which you want to wake up, then place your iPhone next to you while you sleep.

Daily Burn

Daily Burn tracks and measures almost everything you need to know about your health. Record what you’ve eaten and your daily exercise, and the app will tell you how many calories you’ve consumed, how many you’ve burned and balance you need to reach your optimal weight. You can also find out how much carb, fat and protein content is in your diet, and whether you need to increase or decrease the amounts you’re consuming. Setting up an account with Daily Burn is free, however you can subscribe for a few dollars per month to access extra features, such as sleep graphs and workout programs.
