10 Alternatives to BTJunkie

10 Alternatives to BTJunkie

A compilation of 10 alternative top torrent sites and search engines to use now that BtJunkie has decided to voluntarily shut down for good.

In the wake of the seizure of MegaUplaod a number of operators of similar cyberlocker sites along with BitTorrent tracker sites grew nervous about what could happen to them, and either changed how their site operated or shut down for good. BTJunie was among those that decided on the latter – voluntarily shutting its doors for good.

“This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down,” reads a message posted on the site’s homepage. “We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”

If the US govt can use racketeering charges (usually reserved for organized crime groups) against a German citizen living in New Zealand for crimes allegedly committed in the US (copyright infringement) then it means nobody is safe from prosecution under US laws, and you can’t blame the operators of BTJunkie for getting nervous.

But, as is always the case when one BitTorrent tracker site shuts down, there’s still plenty of more ready and willing to take its place.

I’ve compiled a list of 10 of what I think are the more popular torrent tracker sites and search engines around.

1. Demonoid.me (semi-private)

Full access to the site requires registration, but it’s usually open every Friday; in fact, registration is currently open.

2. 1337x

Great selection and no longer hosts any trackers; magnet links only.

3. Torrentbox

Not available to visitors from the US so a proxy or VPN is necessary to access the site.

4. H33t

Has just about any type of content you can think of.

5. isoHunt

Bit Torrent search engine that makes looking for content easy.

6. Kickass Torrents

Bit Torrent search engine with content of all types to choose from.

7. The Pirate Bay

It may no longer host it’s own tracker, but it hasn’t hurt the selection of content available.

8. ExtraTorrent

BitTorrent search engine for all kinds of torrent files

9. EZTV

Dedicated soley to TV show torrents.

10. Google

Simply enter a “title” + “.torrent”; example = “cars .torrent”.

If you have a favorite that isn’t listed please write the name in the comments section below for inclusion.

Stay tuned.

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus

Uh.. yeah. Hilarious...??

Anyways. KickAssTorrents is quickly becoming "the new" BTJunkie these days. The content, community and seed/peer ratio is damn good for a public tracker.

Never understood why ppl use TPB or why the hell it's so popular. It never has anything I am ever looking for and if it does then there are no seeds.

If TPB were the last site left, my piracy days would be done with.
