Limewire 5 Alpha Introduces Private File-Sharing

Releases new version of the once popular P2P program that allows users to selectively share files with family and friends.

Limewire has just released an alpha version of LimeWire 5 and it delivers on its promise to bring "social sharing to the forefront" of the P2P world.

Both the blessing and curse of P2P has always been the open nature of file-sharing. More people means more content is available, but it also means increased susceptibility to the maligned intentions of copyright holders, spammers, and data thieves alike.

Private BitTorrent tracker sites and FTP servers are obvious solutions, but for many they remain out of reach or are simply beyond their technical expertise.

Limewire 5 alpha takes a lot of the headache out of the equation by synching your Gmail contacts with the P2P client, thus simplifying file-sharing to a matter of selecting what to share and with whom (They’re apparently working on adding contacts from Facebook and other sites). There are no frustrating port or client server configurations to worry about.

In fact, what is so appealing about Limewire 5 alpha is the ability to go through contacts and share single file or a whole hard disk drive if you so choose.

Also to note, in addition to downloading and sharing content with family and friends you can also still access the Gnutella network as before.
