A quick step guide that will show you how to grab music from your favorite artists’s MySpace page.
There are many audio files available for playback on the venerable MySpace site yet, very few are available as downloads. There’s a number of ways to bypass this problem and I will cover two of best the methods here for you to use, the first being the easiest.
METHOD A – FreeMusicZilla
METHOD B – Audacity
1. Download and install FreeMusicZilla.
2. Open FreeMusicZilla, visit the desired MySpace page, and play the song you want to download. It will then automatically grab whatever music track you selected (FreeMusicZilla also works for Pandora, Last-fm, eSnips, MOG, iJigg, and IMEEM)
3. Select the grabbed music track and press the DOWNLOAD button. Your download should then begin. Make sure you begin downloading the track before the “Leech Timeout” counter runs out otherwise you’ll have to refresh the page.
EXAMPLE:
In the picture below I used the MySpace page of my buddy DJ Destructo Bunny. He’s a local up and coming hip-hop artist and I urge you to show some support if you like what you hear by either buying a track or two or by trying to check out one of his upcoming shows.
NOTE: FreeMusicZilla places your downloads in the location “C:downloads” by default.
1. Download and install Audacity.
2. Now we need to install a LAME MP3 encoding driver so you can save tracks in the .mp3 format.
First download the driver, which you can do here. It’s in ZIP file format, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with what ZIP files are, there’s a guide here at Zeropaid you can take a look at.
Now drag and drop the driver in the location shown below, “C:WINDOWSsystem.”
3. Select “Wave Out Mix” as the audio recording device.
EXAMPLE:
Now it’s time to find some audio tracks to rip.
A good friend of mine is the lead-singer for a band called The Wagon here in San Diego and has been kind enough to allow me to use his band’s music on MySpace for this tutorial.
The image below is of the band’s page. Notice how the top two songs are available for download and the bottom two are not. We’re going to rip the second song from the top titled “End of Summer,” a personal favorite of mine not to mention timely with Summer drawing to a close.
Now with Audacity and the MySpace page open, click the “record button” on Audacity as shown below and then quickly press the “play button” on the End of Summer track. The track should begin to play and thereby be displayed as eloquent peaks and valleys of music in the Audacity track window.
When the song is finished playing press the “stop button” on Audacity. This will of course stop the recording and allow us to go back and edit the song.
The reason we need to edit the song is because there will be periods of silence in both the beginning and end of our recording. This silence is the delay in reaction time it took for us to both start and stop the process.
Using the scrollbar on the bottom of the track window, scroll back to the beginning of the recording as pictured below.
Using the mouse place your cursor as close to the beginning of the song as possible, then click and drag it all the way to the left and release. We have just selected the silence in the front of the track, which we will now discard by pressing the “delete button” on your keyboard.
Now we need to do the same thing for the end of the recording. To do so simply scroll to the end of the track and then select and delete the silence as you did with the beginning of the track. It’s that easy.
From the “File” tab select “Export as MP3″ as shown below.
It will then prompt you to select a name to save it as, which in this case will be “End of Summer.”
After clicking on the “Save” tab, it will then ask you to “locate the LAME MP3 encoder” we just installed.
Hopefully you remember where we just put it but, just in case I’ll show you where to go.
Once this is done it’ll begin to encode the track and turn it into an MP3, the music file type necessary to play on your iPod or whatever media player of choice.
And with this ladies and gentleman the track is ready to go.
Admittedly, configuring the Audacity program to perform as necessary initially takes a little while, but once this is done future recordings or “ripping” of audio files will be a breeze.

Great guide but wouldn’t it be much easier to simply use Firefox with the “Download Helper” extension? It does work well on MySpace but not so much on LastFM

Well it cant be much easier than FreeMusicZilla which also has the benefit of not adding another extension to Firefox.
I think a Streaming Audio Recorder would be much easier, it record any audio playing through your PC, so you can use it to download any music even the songs that don’t have download link. I works well so far for me.

other than that I have no clue on how an artist can make a dime in this business anymore

and the only new releases will come from those who suck but they think they are stars

First off I listened to a few artists who are all of file sharing
well they call themselves artists but they cannot sell out shows get placements on TV or Film or get a record deal to save their lives
why ?
because they are not fully developed and not being fully developed will most likely mean they will never get a real career as an artist
one of them bragged on how he got 150000 listeners okay if that is the case he should be on tour with tiesto digweed chemical brothers
I doubt he can even get 20 people to his show I can tell he does not know how to produce or mix
I know by now if any real label guy heard his music he will be written off for life for wasting the execs time

you could not even hear their latest tracks a few years back without a sit down meeting with their managers you also had to be a signed artist to a label with a real budget but on this site they are letting you hear everything a few of these producers are going to lose their homes rides money and bling

I would say that former software and music millionaires were 25% of the RE buyers across the US since they ran out of money they
could no longer afford to upgrade or buy more properties so they have been selling quietly for the last 2 years and now to many of them cannot pay the bills so they are selling and taking huge losses some cannot give their places away.
You the fans and consumers afforded these artists producers and programmers lavish lifestyles and now their lifest yle is fading away so again tell me on how file sharing is not causing any damage to the economy.

A woman in the U.K. has been ordered to repay developer Topware Interactive after distributing the firm’s Dream Pinball 3D to a peer-to-peer filesharing network reports the Telegraph.
In all the unnamed woman has been ordered to repay the developer nearly $30000 by London’s Patents County Court: roughly $11325 in damages and around $18607 in “costs and disbursements.”
This judgement comes as the firm wave of results in Topware’s quest to out filesharers. The firm has launched suits against 100 people suspected of sharing the developer’s software in recent months.
For all the woes the “music industry” claims they are having the independent labels have business’ that are exploding. There is an obvious disconnect between the “industry” super star and listening public. The “industry” has backed fewer styles of music and a constant string of wannabes that even the “industry” claims need heavy promotion to make up for missing talent. Even kids can see through that kind of guerilla marketing. Anyone older can remember the days when “industry” backed and supported the adventurous and undiscovered and talented musician. Music is their commodity selected ba sed on graphs of what they think is already popular. Even their data set is skewed with bot hits to produce charts. Their own narrow-minded exclusivity eliminates anything promoted and sold on the internet including Radiohead’s Rainbows until Radiohead signed a deal for a physical cd to be sold in stores. All the albums sold online went uncounted by the “industry”.
It is not the music-buying public that created the business model demanding a tiny select handful of superstars to make millions from music. The internet has democratized the field and thousands of talented musicians have the ability and possibility for making money in music that the “industry” had no interest in promoting because they didn’t fit whatever their accountant said was should sell.
A quote I’ve enjoyed was “no one cried when the fridge but the guy delivering ice out of business” from Pirate Bay. It is very possible for a musician or band to produce a high quality recording in the corner of their bedroom press the discs get it placed with emusic itunes amazon and operate a webstore. They would need to sell 1/100th of what the “industry” label needs in order to see a profit. They would also retain all their own rights. There are business’ they can contract with to provide help with production mastering design and packaging. They would still see a far larger profit with a tiny percentage of the sales the “industry” gobbles up.
I am not saying the “industry” is totally dead. For big mega stars there is no distrubtion network capable like the major labels. But that’s a far cry from representing “90% of all legitimate sales in the U.S.” when they exclude every digital recording and purchase on the internet. For all the whinning the “industry” has done they still can not deliver a recording in the forum I want to hear or what I want to hear. Instead they have responded by saying anything other than what THEY want to offer is illegal. That’s a crock.
With that attitude the “industry” deserves to wither away to a faded memory along with their ’superstars’. And that is what’s happening. I haven’t risked my computer by buying protected discs. I don’t recognize most major labels stars. The “hit” charts are bogus just as playlists on radio. I do not want to be told what to listen to or buy. And I do buy music.
