Big Brother Comes to Sweden – FRA Law Passed

Earlier today, we reported on the imminent vote on the FRA law that would grant sweeping new powers to the FRA to wiretap people in Sweden through phone conversations, email, text messages and more. Now comes word that the law was recently passed in spite of major opposition.

BoshTalk, a reader of ZeroPaid noted in our previous report that the controversial Lex Orwell legislation was reportedly passed. The report comes from a Swedish English news site, The Local.

According to the report, hundreds of demonstrators protested outside of the Swedish parliamentary buildings, nervously waiting for the results of the vote. To their disappointment, the vote was just barely a ‘Yes’ after a few minor amendments to the bill.

Stoppa FRA Lagen, a website dedicated to stopping the controversial legislation is now thanking MPs who did their part in helping to stop the legislation on their homepage.

While this may be considered a dark day in Sweden according to many, there may be hope to reverse what has been done in the coming years through the next election.
