GUIDE: Using Friend Lists to Filter Facebook News Feed

A quick guide that will show you how to use friend lists to customize your Facebook News Feed so that you only see content from specific people or persons.

Facebook friend lists are an easy way to filter yours Facebook News Feed or even customize your Facebook status updates and posts so that only certain people, or groups of people, can see them. They only take a few minutes to create, and can create a more robust Facebook experience because they help filter out the important from the not so important, the close friends from the distant friends, and close family members from the estranged (or just strange).

Oftentimes, it can be filled with updates and content from people you really have no interest in following on a daily basis, and only want to check in on every once in a while.

For those burdened with hundreds, or even thousands, of Facebook friends, the problem can be even more acute. With this in mind the following is the quick and simple way to end news clutter.

NOTE: Updated August 31, 2011 to reflect recent Facebook privacy settings updates.

Using Friend Lists to Filter Your News Feed

1. Go to the News Feed on your Facebook Home page and select the “Most Recent” tab.

2. Scroll down and select whichever friend list you want to use to filter the News Feed.

3. “Most Recent” should then switch to whichever friend list you selected.

It’s that easy.

Stay tuned.
