NIN Offers Free Download of New Tour Sampler

Features four mp3s from the lineup of artists who will be joining the band on its upcoming "Lights in the Sky" tour.

NIN continues to rock the music industry by repeatedly thinking outside the box and putting its music directly in the hands of its fans. Unlike bands like Metallica who continue to watch from the sidelines while other music artists explore their creativity, NIN not only thinks outside the box, it burned the darn thing Hernando Cortes-style so there’d be no going back.

Angry over the music industry’s admitted penchant for charging its fans more because they were loyal, NIN frontman Trent Reznor decided long ago to it was time for them to set out on their own.

After it was free from greedy record labels and the limits it placed on its ability to reach fans, NIN quickly became refocused on its craft – music – and NIN fans, as well the music community as whole, have never been happier.

From "Ghosts Vol 1" (of 4) to its recent offering of "The Slip," NIN has sought to connect with its listeners in a way that bypasses all the traditional gatekeepers.

So it’s not surprising that NIN has announced a free EP download featuring songs from the lineup for its upcoming "Lights In the Sky" tour.

From their blog:

I am proud to announce the final personnel lineup of nine inch nails for the foreseeable future. We’ve added, we’ve subtracted and we’ve wound up with unquestionably the strongest lineup I’ve EVER had. Joining me onstage will be Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Freese and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
We’ve been working on something really special for these shows and so far I couldn’t be happier with the results. We’ll be revealing some live performances shortly here on nin.com – in the meantime, we’ve posted some photos from rehearsals up on Flickr here.

Meanwhile, I assume some of you may not be entirely familiar with the acts I’ve chosen to join us on various legs of this tour, so we’ve compiled a sampler EP for you. CLICK HERE to download this for free. If you like what you hear, be sure to show up early to the show (and please remember to support them by purchasing their music, if so inclined).

Best,
TR

The EP contains five high quality, DRM-free, MP3 files from a place to bury strangers, does it offend you, yeah?, crystal castles, deerhunter, and nine inch nails. It also includes cover art, wallpapers, avatars, and graphics.

Once again we have simple ideas from a complex person. It seems a no-brainer that free music allows your fans to see what they can expect from you tour’s lineup. But, yet free isn’t in any of the record labels’ vernacular.

Long live NIN!

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus
