Great analysis. Good job! I am currently using AVG’s mobile security apps. http://www.avg.com/antivirus-for-android It seems cool. I have not noticed any slowdown. It scans automatically every app I install, plus few other great functionalities. I will be open to try out other options, if need be.

Checking on Android Market on the free anti-virus apps, and reading the terms and conditions, it looks like you grant them unlimited access to any/all personal information on your device, including browsing history, contacts, all docs, etc. And there is no statement of why they need this or what they will or won’t do with the information. E.g., sending it to marketing firms to target you with adds, or even malicious things. So, this is why the apps are “free”. Nothing is free!
So, can I get anti-virus software without having to strip naked for the app??
