Orb’s media center application now streams BitTorrent downloads and online content to any other Internet-connected device like an iPhone, TV, or game console.

BitTorrent Inc and Orb Networks have announced a partnership to enable BitTorrent downloads to be accessible on any Internet-connected device. Together they hope to deliver faster, easier, anywhere, anytime access to downloaded, personal, or online content

It is their hope to create a “seamless media experience” by allowing users to access BitTorrent downloads including movies, TV shows and music, and provides them with the ability to enjoy all of that content, anywhere, on any screen or audio device.

“People are tired and frustrated with the constraints that the media world has imposed on their ability to consume their own media,” said Joe Costello, CEO of Orb Networks.

With Orb and BitTorrent installed on their PC, users will see a media library view of all the media on that computer. Organized by media type, users can quickly and easily organize their titles, make playlists, and share content with their friends via email, SMS, or on a social networking-like page.

Simply put, BitTorrent enables the download of content to the home and Orb enables access to that content from any device the user may own.

Orb’s media center application can stream BitTorrent downloads – as well as music, home videos, webcam video, or any web content – to any other Internet-connected device. Those include IP-enabled solutions ranging from a road warrior’s laptop, a Gen-Y’s mobile phone, or a large-screen TV at a party, using a game console like Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.

BitTorrent is the most popular way to get branded content to your computer over the Internet, and Orb lets you enjoy any of your PC’s media anywhere you have an Internet connection,” said Doug Walker, CEO of BitTorrent, Inc. “Together we are providing a seamless way for the millions of BitTorrent users worldwide to enjoy their movies, videos, music and more. It’s your media, it’s about time you were able to enjoy it where you wanted.”

nothing but a nice interface. There are lot of media servers out in the web. just because this one has a built in bittorrent client doesnt mean jack shit. I want to see reliability and performance charts instead of a flash swf showing what I “can” do with this damn software……

I’m not a big fan of ORB to be honest. There is the privacy issue for one thing in that your server is accessed via theirs (True there is a fairly big privacy policy but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Then there is a performance issue too. On a fairly basic machine you can hardly run anything else whilst you are running orb server so think how much extra you’ll need to run BitTorrent traffic too! Not all of us posess dual core PCs.
