Study: uTorrent More Popular than Azureus

New report says that uTorrent is installed on almost 6% of desktops versus 2% for Azureus.

According to a new study by Digital Music News, the uTorrent BitTorrent client is now more popular than Azureus. The sampling was conducted on over a million PCs worldwide.

According to TorrentFreak, which analyzed the results, the breakdown is as follows:

1. uTorrent – 5.56%

2. BitTorrent (official client) – 2.28%

3. Azureus – 2.11%

3. Bitcomet – 1.89%

4. Bitlord – 1.27%

Now it’s unclear from the study and its analysis about the reliability of the figures for install rates doesn’t necessarily translate into usage.

I know that personally I have both clients installed, each having a different function since Azureus has far more bells and whistles via plugins than does uTorrent. However, I tend to run uTorrent far more often because of its lower memory footprint allowing me to multi-task while downloading content. The same could be true of others as well.

Also, much like any study, the results are only as good as the sampling performed and again we have no ability to analyze their methodization.

What BitTorrent client do you use?

I have tried about 4 or 5 different bittorrent clients and I have stuck with uTorrent. I like the idea that it runs as a standalone executable uses very little system resources and can even be run from a USB stick. I know that I have recommended uTorrent to at least 4 other people who were starting to get into torrent downloading.

I agree. I used to use Azureus but switched to uTorrent about 6 months ago.

pitty you can’t install plugins like safepeer
Azureus made a mess with the vuze thing. I updated it and found out azureus was gone for good. I managed to disable all the crap but I still switched to utorrent for good.
