Demonoid Admin Steps Aside, Says Demonoid Will Be ‘Resurrected’

Deimos leaves the BitTorrent tracker site to address “real-world” issues and says we will hear about the site’s future very soon.

It’s been a little over five months now that the venerable Demonoid BitTorrent tracker site closed down thanks to pressure from the Canadian Recording Industry Association(CRIA). Since then it has been fondly missed since the by the many users of the site who loved the breadth and quality of content it made available.

Some glimmers of hope of its resurrection were evident by recent reports that its tracker was active from a server in Malaysia.

Other than that it’s been fairly quiet until yesterday when Deimos, the Demonoid admin, made a post in the SubDemon forums informing the community of his departure and of how they will “in the near future” find out “what the future holds” for the site.

He writes:

Hello Everyone,

It is with great sadness (and not a little relief) that I announce that I will be stepping down as admin of Demonoid, with effect from today. Demonoid is currently suffering from a number of things, prime amongst these being my distraction with real-world issues, and so I have handed the reins over to a new administrator – a close friend of mine, which I trust completely and has the knowledge and time to take care of the site.

He will, in due course, be making his own announcements about the future of Demonoid. Of course, speculation over the future of the site is fun, but it is ultimately fruitless – you will all, in the near future, become aware of what the future holds. I trust that you will all give your support to the new admin as he finds his feet while he resurrects Demonoid.

Thanks again for your support in making Demonoid what it was and is. Goodbye and good wishes – it has been a blast!

– Deimos

There’s a lot to take in from his statement, which contains news both good and bad, but certainly discovering “what the future holds” for the site is the most welcome.

Let’s just hope it’s sooner rather than later.
