No, the sound doesn't need to be loud, your friend is probably just jamming because he's pumped up from being on the air. You could have it quiet in the room and use headphones just as well, but he's probably re-creating the club experience and might even have strobes and black lights in his room too!

Port 8000 is where the stream goes out from your Shoutcast server to the Shoutcast site and the world, port 8001 is your relay port if you want to have another Shoutcast user connect to your computer for you to relay their show. They would connect to your computer at 8001 and give the password, and then their sound would go from your computer to theirs and out to their listeners.

Random people don't just connect to 8001, it's for a DJ in another location who wants to have their friends to come on to their station.

I'm not an internet dj and don't aspire to be one, but I have a question about how this works.

My neighbour is an internet dj and for two hours every week plays his music loud enough that it vibrates the walls. Can you answer this question: Does the music have to be played out loud in the room it's being played from in order to be online?

hay nice guide but it only cover shoutcast .. why use a unicast stream when there is peer 2 peer technology that does a far better job

to that end i also made a guide how to set up your own internet radio station useing streamerp2p

theres even a video to show you how

http://www.ascentwd.co.uk/p2pguide/guide.html

you should also check out www.streamerp2p.com for more information on how the software works
and to see the list of stations that broadcast with streamerp2p
