Tutorial on how to turn any PC into a DJ booth to broadcast your favorite music from home, at a party, or anywhere else to the world.

For those budding Internet DJs out there heres a quick how-to-guide on how to turn a PC into a DJ booth you can control from home, at a party, or whever else you choose.

The easy to follow steps below will guide you through the process and will get the globe groovin to your MP3 collection in no time at all.

STEP 1

Download WINAMP Music Player

STEP 2

Download the SHOUTcast DSP Plug-In

In order to broadcast to a running SHOUTcast server, you need this plug-in to add this capability to the WINAMP media software.

STEP 3

Download SHOUTCAST Server 1.9.5

This is the server program you need to run on your computer and which WINAMP, using the DSP plug-in, will connect to in order to broadcast your content.

STEP 4

Configuration - Okay, heres the fun part.

First, open WINAMP and select "preferences."

Under preferences scroll down to DSP/Effect and double-click it.

The SHOUTcast Source box should open up in a new window.

Second, to make it easier, run the server for the DSP plug-in at this time so you wont forget to do it later and wonder why you can't connect, get really frustrated, start kicking your PC and saying awful things about it's mother, and, oh wait, that was me. Sorry.

Anyways, so yes, start the server first. You should be able to find it here:

1

Thirdly, click the INPUT tab and make sure WINAMP is selected for the input device, or if you will be using the MIC to really get in the drivers seat select "Soundcard Input."

Fourthly, select the ENCODER tab and choose your settings. Depending on how many people you intend on reaching with your broadcast, think bandwith vs quality of transmission, choose the settings accordingly.

STEP 5

Port forwarding.

First of all make sure you forward your port settings if using a router. WINAMP reccomends to forward both ports 8000 and 8001, it's unclear why specifically, but I heeded the advice nonetheless. Then click the YELLOW PAGES button and select a name for your station. Click CONNECTION when done choosing a name.

And well, finally, you're ready to press that magic CONNECT button to send your grooves out into the far reaches of the internet to family, friends, and anybody else brave enough to listen.

(NOTE: Picture says DISCONNECT but only beacuse program was active, will say CONNECT in yours)

Enjoy. Now go forth and spin.
