Village People Sue The Pirate Bay, ABBA to Follow?

Hire the anti-piracy firm Web Sheriff to go after the world's largest BitTorrent tracker site, who curiously asks for Swedish pop supergroup ABBA to join the cause.

Just when life already seemed strange enough come, news comes along that music artists Prince and The Village People are to sue the BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay in a Swedish court for copyright infringement.

“We’re looking at damages of millions of dollars, and we will act in both US and Swedish courts,” John Giacobbi, president of law firm Web Sheriff, said in a statement. The law firm specializes in copyright issues, E24.se reports.

Other artists, including Van Morrison may also be included in the lawsuit, Giacobbi said.

The lawsuit will include the entire discography of works from the artists involved. These have, according to the artists themselves, been distributed illegally with the help of The Pirate Bay.

For Prince, this includes some 40 albums, including a number of Greatest Hits albums. The Village People are mainly concerned about receiving damages for lost revenue for their 1970s disco classic YMCA.

“Many are asking themselves why they should be paying for content when it is widely available free of charge,” Giacobbi told E24.se.

“But such thinking disregards the fact that someone has been creating this music or movie, and invested huge sums of money in the project. Therefore it should be up to [the creators] to decide how and to whom their works are being distributed.”

He also agrees with U2’s manager Paul McGuinness in that ISPs and telecom firms should take more responsibility for hosting these type of websites.

“I totally agree. We’ve said for years that web hotels – who are making millions, even billions, by renting out web space to file-sharing websites – should take more responsibility and control these websites,” Giacobbi said.

I doubt any of the these artists have a chance in hell of winning. Either way I feel especially sad for the Village People who have had to run around in those insane costumes for the last 30 years all the while hitting up anybody and everybody who play what has to be considered a mediocre song at best.

  • #1    hey Village People you will just have to eat your losses and write off the losses.

p2p is here to stay if you have problems making money from the sales then try rigging the access to your concerts to require cd purchases and clipping bar codes and sending store reciepts to obtain tickets and make the tickets unique so they cant be transfered (like airline tickets)

  • #2    Someone convinced these poor idiots they can win against the pirate bay, effectively it's a legal ddos attack on TPB, disregarding the fact that many of their activities are borderline legal at best.

I doubt that anyone would be buying your rubbish these days anyways, 30 years is a long time to be sailing the same ship, maybe you oughtta get a new one, one that doesn't make you look like a bad 60's sitcom!

  • #3    These fags sucked then and still suck today, no pun intended, but it fits anyway.

Also they made their money long before the tpb was around.

I'm sure sharing their crappy music is not at the top of anyones list.
