Vista SP1 Leaked to BitTorrent

posted by soulxtc in bittorrent // 164 days 4 hours 16 minutes ago

Although official release has been delayed until March, BitTorrent users can now download it from tracker sites like The Pirate Bay.

Regular people may not be able to get their hands on Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for weeks, but BitTorrent users can currently download a copy on public BitTorrent tracker sites everywhere.

Microsoft delayed launching SP1 because of incompatibilities between the service pack and drivers on peoples' machine. Microsoft won't necessarily be fixing those drivers before launch. Instead, it is tracking down which drivers cause problems, and then ensuring that Microsoft Update, or some other method, will block SP1 from being installed on hardware with potential driver glitches.

The leaked copy of Vista SP1 is a RTM, or release to manufacturing version, and has apparently been available for several days now.

  • #1    VISTA is acknowledged to be "bloatware". For home use, Windows XP is just fine, thank you very much, and SP3 is out this Spring. Who in their right mind would bother, I mean, seriously???

Totally.......I have already uninstalled Vista from like 3 of my buddies machines and put XP on instead....people like my bro for instance, who insists on keeping Vista installed installed on his laptop, are going to be looking for this first SP.

  • #3    I would assume 95% of people that have vista got it from a recently purchased PC, so not a big deal.

How is UPGRADING to xp a bitch? If you reformat, , you should have no problems! Unless you have some drivers you need after reformat, but those should be available online.

If you are wanting to keep vista for a dual boot, then THAT could be a problem. But upgrading to xp is not if you totally reformat your hard drive!

  • #6    Thats the problem right there. I really don't want to reformat, as I have stuff on it that is important and that I want to keep. I could temporarily move it to an external hard drive, but I don't have enough space left on it, and there is nothing I can delete on there to make room either. I don't have the money to buy a new external hard drive, so basically I am screwed.

  • #7    Had Vista for about 1 week.. ? Was drving me nuts with prompts for this and that.. Turned all that crap off, the the SLOW file transferring between drives and over the network (Lan) was pissing me off.. Then the slow reaction times of the GUI ..

That was the last straw.. Upgraded to XP and Linux dual boot now. Vista is terrible, absolutely terrible to use.

  • #8    You guys are full of shit... Vista is not anywhere near as horrible as you guys portray. Whats so horrible about it? I have it on my desktop at home and runs perfect... never had any probems. Just bought a new Dell laptop... runs slick... no problems! so whats the real problem? People trying to run Vista on machines not up to par for running Vista? Bandwagon?

  • #9    I must agree with #8 here. I have disabled the UAC, aero and the crap I didn't need and it runs all right now.

I had to disable a lot of crap on my previous XP installation so, I am not complaining.

Obviously, since I disabled most of the new stuff vista introduced, it is now basically an XP with some nice featuer added, but at least I have DX10.

It runs fast and without issues at all.

Going back on topic. I am one of those who will wait for the official release of the SP. I am not 100% sure this leaked version will be identical to the one being release in a month.

  • #10    I alpha and Beta tested both longhorn/Vista on at least 4 different hardware platforms for business/Home use. I tested at least 6 different builds of Vista SP1. My choice of OS still is XP pro. Vista simply has too many unecessary services running in the background. It is a known memory whore, besides using too many processor threads at any given time. Microsoft touts 'trusted computing' meaning that Vista's DRM will CONSTANTLY burden the OS down. This infection will NON stop monitor your every move to insure you're not trying to 'pirate' blu-ray or HD DVD so called 'premium content'. After switching bck to XP Pro I was incredibly happy. All my programs work with lightening speed. My machine is no slouch with Dual Intel 3.4 GHz Xeons, 4 Gigs of DDR2 RAM, 512 MB Nvidia Video card. I have found with games like BioShock, Crysis that they actually run smoother with Direct X 9 on an XP machine versus Direct X 10 on Vista. Which is really sad.

  • #12    Oh man, I had to get in on this action. I just got my first Vista computer a few weeks ago and I can't do jack squat with it. I know for some people that have the midas touch, Vista probably works for them, but honestly I never saw XP have as many problems as Vista, I was using XP since it came out. With SP2 it is like a comparing a Cheetah racing a Hippo. Vista is so bulky and unstable. The real OS winner is Mac OS X Leopard though. If you guys haven't used that, you don't know what you're missing. I dual boot Leopard and XP SP2 on my Macbook Pro and as stable as XP SP2 is, I would always prefer to be in Leopard. It just has a cool feel and runs very quickly and nimbly. There is no extra bulk, no crapware, malware, spyware, viruses, VERY FEW crashes. I think Microsoft decided to screw around with their Crappy OS at the wrong time when Apple is gaining a lot of marketshare. When I'm at school I think close to half of all the computer are Apple now. Kids that have been using Apple since elementary school are not big fans of Windows anymore and it's going to slowly lose its appeal especially if Microsoft is going to take a year to release SPs for their horribly coded OS.

  • #13    I was using the ol' apple II comps at school when I was a kid, and I'm a die-hard pc clone fan so meh.

As far as vista is concerned I can sum it up in a nice neat little equation...

    Vista = ME 2.0

    Then burn it on DVD.

LOL, funniest thing I've heard 1in weeks. That's kind of what I was thinking. I remember ME. In fact I don't think I'll ever forget. Kernel error every 14.5 seconds. That was the OS that Microsoft purposely threw bugs in to pave the way for XP, and then when the Microsoft empoloyees leaked what had been done they were fired and sued or put in prison or something for it. I think Microsoft is just genuinely stupid this time though.
