Wants site to somehow inspect every single uploaded file to make sure that it’s not copyrighted.
There’s some interesting news out of Germany today whereby the District court of Dusseldorf has recently ordered the popular web hosting site Rapidshare to immediately begin blocking the uploading of copyrighted material to the site.
The decision isn’t final for if it decides to appeal the decision, which it obviously will, it will be several years before it reaches the Federal Court and a final conclusion on the site’s fate is made.
What makes the recent court decision so troubling for Rapidshare and so devastating if upheld on appeal, is that there is no way humanly or technologically possible for it to inspect each and every single uploaded file to make sure that it’s not copyrighted material.
Aside from actually sitting down and both listening to and watching every single music and movie file that graces its servers there’s no way it could ever accomplish what the District court of Dusseldorf is asking it to do. Short of that it would mean the end of Rapidshare, which has quickly become the powerhouse of file-sharing for bloggers and others looking for an easy non-P2P method of sharing content.

Do people even upload standard films and warez and such on Rapidshare? The only thing I ever see using Rapidshare is porn.
@Stalinyle (14MB chunks) and created a series of li nks.
Yes have seen many times. They break em down BitTorrent st
For once I wouldn’t mind a service being shut down. Rapidshare has one of the worst hosting services on the internet. The only reason it is popular is that people who upload get points to download more material. Once they get shutdown I’m hoping people will move to better systems that don’t authenticate or limit downloads.
Pretty much everything released via P2P filters down to the Warez boards blogs & specialist forums that use this kind of file transfer method . Rapidshare (100MB max file size) is by far & away the most popular but there are plenty of alternative file hosting companies available .
@Mountain
Yah Ive never liked it either – hated having my DL’s limited and refused to become a premium member…..

You guys have no idea what you are talking about.
What do you expect. Free service? No one is going to do this for free. At least not giving unlimited bandwidth i.e. your maximum download rate.
I hope nothing is going to happen.
Nestea_Zen maybe you should do your research before shooting your mouth off. They already have such sites I can’t think of them off the top of my head but I have downloaded files from other services with no wait no authentication and I was able to download much more then with rapid share.
hey mountain_rage you should do your research before shooting YOUR mouth off. the sites you are referring to ALWAYS go out of business. ever notice that? examples: nitroshare ultraxshare rogueshare.
the only one that has managed to stay in business is mediafire and they delete links all the time and won’t allow password-protected files encrypted files and have no trans-load feature. you are a complete idiot to say there are so many services that are better than RS because there are not hence why you couldn’t name any.
RS provides great service and value for those willing to spend a couple bucks. If you are so cheap that you refuse to buy a 6-month account for only 30-euros for unlimited bandwidth privacy and speed you will never see on P2P then you really should just stfu.
There are comparable services to rapidshare but none with as many files. The closest would be megaupload who has almost the same limitations and has similar prices.
Before you accuse someone for not doing their research make sure you do your own.
Actually I can’t name any others because all the people using rapidshare to gain credits as I mentioned above even for bloody image boards people are using rapidshare. So for image boards a good alternative would be using the damn image boards. If you want a real alternative Zshare has been good to me so far 100mb size limit unlimited downloads. For smaller files their is yourfilehost its been down lately but usually works good. If your bored for whatever reason you can also look through this list http://www.google.ca/search?q=free+file+hosting&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a . Happy now rapidshare sucks.
Just get your own server it’s not that hard to install the HTTP server software on your home PC then get NO-IP software so you don’t have to keep telling people an ever-changing string of numbers and BAM instant fileserver.
i already knew about zshare and it does not have the same features as rapidshare and has a ton of shit advertising plus the speeds are not comparable. good quality is worth paying for. you can’t have everything for free. there is always private torrent trackers as an alternative I guess.
hey people i just got some of my friends who are working wif the RS!!they are people who work for them.
recently they gave me accts u share becouz they know that many people are asking!!!
