‘I Wouldn’t Steal’ Notes that making a copy is fundamentally different from stealing.
The Green Party of Europe has released a new video that criticizes the multinational media industry for its stance on file-sharing. They point out that the “…media industry has failed to offer viable legal alternatives and they will fail to convince consumers that sharing equals stealing.”
Furthermore, they note how the entertainment industry has been successful at changing copyright and fair-use laws to protect their profits so that file-sharing consumers have been turned into criminals.
In protest of this state of affairs the Green Party decided to make a video that highlights the inconsistencies of the entertainment industry’s “I Wouldn’t Steal” message that equates physical theft with downloading a new album on P2P. They claim that downloading movies is the same as snatching bags, stealing cars or shoplifting. As the Greens point out, “That’s simply not true – making a copy is fundamentally different from stealing.”
Here it is, and like their site says, “Support Artists, Not Multinationals.”

Someone should put this in place of the usual propaganda video at the beginning of DVD-5s. I’ll bet it will be on downloads soon.. It’s interesting that the video on their site was made with Divx instead of a free codec like Xvid though. Looks great!
