Ups the ante against competitors and perhaps even piracy? how?

is there going to be a technical change or is it more a "why rip the stream when i can get it anytime"?

Lets see 8.99 for unlimited movie and TV show streaming? Id be tempted to choose it over piracy if I didnt feel like hassling with BitTorrent ore Usenet.

You wouldnt get quite the selection mind u but youd definitely get the ease of use and reliability.

I knew this was coming. For $15 a month you can subscribe to Napster get any song you want no hassles from the RIAA. Which doesn't stop ANY artist from going it on his own and bypassing the labels which is what more and mroe artists appear to be doing anyway. This does the same thing (FINALLY!) for movies.

I'm guessing that Napster and NetFlix become the ultimate time-shifting arguments. I mean sure you torrented <whatever> to your hard drive but since you already have a membership that would have allowed you to do this anyways........

I checked my account I have the $17 a month deal how come I'm not seeing every possible movie on NetFlix available for streaming? Anyone know?

I don't know maybe it's because they have to encode them all and that would take time for thousands of movies even with an army of computers. Even going from DVD to a quality Xvid file at home can take 2-3 hours per disk and our advantage is we have a giant ripping network with thousands of computers going at it worldwide day and night.

Boomer:

The studios have all their movies digitally encoded already more than likely on servers. It would take a few keystrokes and whatever transfer time was needed over the Internet to get those movies to NetFlix.

Just got off the phone with NetFlix customer service. Yes all members (unless you're on the $4.99 a month plan) can now stream whatever NetFlix has available to stream at any time no monthly limits. Yes 6000 movies are available but NetFlix' complete catalog has 90000 movies.

FYI.
