Famed file-sharing Swedes point out that they’re not subject to the laws of the United States.
Fred Goldman is taking legal action to stop The Pirate Bay from posting OJ Simpson’s book, “If I Did It.”
Goldman, who successfully sued OJ to obtain rights to the book, claims he has lost at least $150,000 in damages ever since The Pirate Bay, the world’s largest BitTorrent tracker site, made the book available for downloads according to the lawsuit filed last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Although Goldman’s attorneys have sent a letter demanding it remove tracker links for the book, The Pirate Bay has rightly pointed out that “they are not subject to the laws of the United States.”
The lawsuit seeks to recover profits from the “illegal publication” and suggests that The Pirate Bay receives advertising money from such American companies as Wal-Mart, Target, Jamster and The Wall Street Journal.
“It’s the wealth through the advertising” that allows the site to remain, Goldman attorney David Cook said.
“Ron Goldman LLC will never be able to stop these pirates from posting that book online but they can do that in the poorhouse,” Cook said.
Goldman won the rights to the book in his ongoing legal battle against Simpson, who was acquitted in a criminal trial of the 1994 murders of Goldman’s son, Ron, and Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson. After their families sued for wrongful death, a civil court jury found Simpson liable for the killings and ordered that he pay $33.5 million.
Simpson has paid little of the judgment, which has risen to about $39 million with interest, so Fred Goldman has been going after some of the former football star’s assets.
He recently won the rights to the book “If I Did It,” a supposedly fictional account of how the murders were committed. The book was retitled “If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer” and became a New York Times best-seller.

HA! Never thought I would see the day Jorge would complain that the site isn’t up to date.
Also the guy is screwed many bigger more powerful individuals have tried and failed at what he is attempting.
So let me get this straight Goldman took OJ’s book and is now selling it himself? I’d think he would want to stay as far away from anything OK has done and not even get near that book!
To me this is all ancient history and they should all go away send them to the cornfield. The Akita was cool though. For football heroes 1-up to Boomer Esiason!
People should not profit from tragedy. That’s what this guy is trying to do. (Not to mention that so did O.J. but he seems pretty well screwed right now.)

Masti should be banned and raped with a baseball bat.
I feel bad for Ron Goldman who is obviously being robbed by some scum sucking attorney. I also hate to see anything that makes OJ smile and certainly it was someone in the OJ camp that leaked the book in the first place.
As far as The Pirate Bay getting sued? Good luck with that!
I do feel sorry for the Goldman family though.
But isn’t it kinda strange that OJ would not have the sense to stay out of trouble with the law and finds himself in this new case accused of getting his stuff back at gunpoint?
If he DID have his wife murdered maybe there is poetic justice after all.
