What.CD Officially Moved to Sweden, Waffles.FM Soon to Follow

The OiNK replacement sites make their way for safer harbors in Sweden alongside the other famed pirates at The Pirate Bay.

After the devastating loss of OiNK back in October, it became quite apparent to all that Sweden had to become the new homeland for BitTorrent tracker sites if they ever were to be able to enjoy a relative degree of safety from overly aggressive anti-piracy organizations and backwards thinking copyright protection groups.

What.CD and Waffles.FM, the two most prominent sites that have risen from the ashes of OiNK, have stated all along that their ultimate goal was to end up in the safe harbors of Sweden alongside The Pirate Bay.

Well, over the weekend What.CD announced that it had finally completed the move and is now operating from the Sweden-based PRQ hosting, which is owned and operated by two of the founders of The Pirate Bay.

From a post on What.CD:

Yes, you're reading that correctly. A few hours ago, we relocated the entire site to a single server hosted in the prq.se datacenter - with 12 hours left on our leaseweb deadline. The move went quite smoothly (a lot more smoothly than we anticipated), although some users are still experiencing DNS problems.

If you're having problems accessing the site or the tracker, do this:

1. Check your hosts file. If you edited it when we changed servers before, it'll still be forwarding the what.cd domain name to the old server. Just remove the what.cd lines, and all should be well.

2. If that doesn't work, flush dns. In windows, you do this by going start -> run, typing in cmd, then typing in ipconfig /flushdns.

3. If the above two methods have no effect, then your problems are most likely caused by caching in your DNS servers. They'll be sorted out automatically in the next 12 hours.

Waffles.FM is still working on the move, with admin apparently able to recently obtain the funds necessary to do so.

From a post on Waffles.FM:

Swedish server and PayPal updates

Our server in Sweden is underway. I have borrowed the all of the funds for the payment from my brother and a friend. The reason it is taking so long is we have special ordered some non-stock parts, such as raptor SATA-300 hard drives(>=10krpm drives are mostly SCSI and SaS), and a surplus amount of RAM. We will move seamlessly this week, and when we do, a new invite system will be implemented that allows the userbase to expand slowly. Our server in the Netherlands now has another month on it, so you can forget about potential downtime.

As far as PayPal goes... we are still taking every step we can to unfreeze the account but it has not proven useful just yet. If you want to donate now, put the money aside as we currently have no method of accepting donations. It seems Amazon doesn't want us either.

Now there's been a lot of speculation about who the victor will be in terms of OiNK' s heir apparent, but I personally hope they both succeed. So long as Waffles.FM is able to move this week as it expects, then all should be well. I think the only thing people are really concerned about is that they have a site to go to that they won't have to worry about getting taken down anytime soon, and it sounds like both now have it covered.

Enjoy.
