The Pirate Bay Updates Music Torrents

The Pirate Bay Updates Music Torrents

Still in beta, but shows links for other albums to download if available as well as similar artists, a list of upcoming concerts, and even allows you to preview some of their tracks.

The Pirate Bay has never really been known for user friendliness or functionality, it’s about as bare bones a BitTorrent tracker site one could ask for in fact. Now it seems that it’s inching towards changing some of that by releasing the first update to the new music section it promised fans a few days ago.

The update now allows users to enjoy some of the same functionality that OiNKPllus offers (a greasemonkey script for Firefox I mentioned a while back). It lists links for similar artists as well as other albums available for download on the site. It also displays “upcoming events” and a Last.fm player with which to preview some of the artist’s music.

I think I still prefer to use OiNKPlus over these updates, but it’s hard to criticize a site when they’re putting in the time and effort to give people added features and functionality. It will also help to certainly distinguish them from other public tracker sites like Mininova, ISOHunt, SumoTorrent, and others.

For rabid music fans, the list of upcoming live events is surely a welcome addition and makes it that much easier to show your favorite artists some real support. It also makes it pretty convenient to find additional albums to download if you find an artist you like.

The Pirate Bay still plans to introduce a new section dedicated to music sometime in the near future, but as of this moment they are “…not quite done with that.”

Stay tuned.

Looks really good. Personally I think this will increase traffic to their site as it gives them something other public trackers don’t have.
