The Pirate Bay Quits ‘BOiNK’ Project, but Plans New Music Section

Realizes that other BitTorrent tracker sites like Waffles and What eliminate the need for new music trackers, especially ones that aren’t share-ratio-based.

In the aftermath of the sad shutdown of OiNK, the BitTorrent community’s longstanding flagship music tracker site, The Pirate Bay announced that it was going to develop a public version based in Sweden.

Well, they’ve just announced that BOiNK is now little more than a reference to the sound of the idea being tossed from their desk to the wastebin. With so many new music tracker sites like Waffles.fm and What.cd springing up these days to fill the void left by OiNK’s demise, they find it superfluous to open up one of their own as well.

They also acknowledge that former OiNK members want share-ratio enforcement to ensure a large selection of content and decent download speeds. Share-ratios are “not our specialty,” as Brokep points out, and it’s better if sites “do what they’re best at and what they love the most.”

However, The Pirate Bay does plan to roll out a new music section any day now that will “feature a new genre browser, artist browsing and more.”

“Yes, a lot of cool new stuff will be featured in it, not yet seen on any torrent site, ” Brokep writes. “And it will only improve over time as we are going to put a lot of effort in it.”

As always, The Pirate Bay never fails to keeps things in the BitTorrent community interesting.

yo this is gay………….first they wanna give it a shot with boink…………..uhu…………and now they plan to remake torrent browsing!?!?!?!? new music site? is it gonna be private? and enforced ratio? if at least enforced ratio then i might be in but otherwise is gonna be another sucky tracker………good luck with that PirateBay……….although there are useful torrents in the site (about 1:8)

Good luck with those english classes. Anyway this is good news although quite a far cry from their initial ambition. Personally I liked the first project over this one. However this is a welcomed addition as it brings usability to the site similar to that of private sites. It also adds credibility to offering music for free as it allows you to discover new artists. Will it be as good as Oink definitely not but its still nice to have.

Yeah being a member of what I don’t find a need for a PUBLIC music tracker the quality wouldn’t be too good without strict rules. This new music section might make TPBs music torrents more accessable to the public I have a hard time browsing the site and finding anything that I actually want.
