First Episode of “The Walking Dead” Leaks to BitTorrent

Highly anticipated TV series based upon the comic book series of the same name finds its way to BitTorrent. tracker sites everywhere well ahead of it official Halloween premiere.

Today is an early Christmas, or Halloween, as the case may be, as it appears that a PREAIR of the first episode of the highly anticipated The Walking Dead TV series has leaked to BitTorrent tracker sites everywhere. The episode is scheduled to premiere on the AMC network on October 31st during the network’s “Fearfest.”

The series is based upon the monthly black and white American comic book series first published back in 2003 and lasting 24 issues.

“Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone,” reads a brief explanation of the story’s plotline. “The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse.”

The series is written and produced by Frank Darabont, three-time Academy Award-nominee for his work directing The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and more recently, The Mist. He reportedly directed the premiere episode as well as three episodes that follow.

This not the first time that PREAIR episodes of a TV series have leaked to BitTorrent. A few years back it was the “Sarah Connor Chronicles” as well as “Jericho,” “Traveler,” “Caprica,” and a number of others.

Stay tuned.

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus

News is out. Torrent leak didn't HURT the show, it HELPED it. Mtv is reporting it's the highest rated cable premiere of the year with 5.3 million viewers (total of 8.1 million if you count the 11:30 showing.)Why can't we put this "sharing is stealing" myth to bed?If this torrent hadn't "leaked" (I assume it was done on purpose) they wouldn't have been able to muster a fraction of the ad budget it wouldn't required to get the word out.

Just thought I'd pass this along as a footnote."While 5.3 million viewers tuned into the series premiere of AMC's new zombie-apocalypse thriller The Walking Dead, the show not only garnered the highest ratings of any AMC premiere in history, but also took the top spot of any cable debut in 2010. “It's a good day to be dead. We are so proud of this series, its depth of storytelling and the remarkable talent attached,” AMC President Charlie Collier"So much for piracy killing entertainment.

Um no. This has absolutely nothing to do with 28 days later. First off 28 days later did not have any zombies, they were all living humans who were infected with a virus. They were not undead and could be killed the same as any living human being. Secondly this movie is based on a comic called "the walking dead" which has been in production since well before 28 days later was even made. It comes on in a few hours on AMC and I highly recommend it.

Is this storyline just a remake of the film 28 days later?

This shit is awesome. I hate to keep harping on it because I might come off as an industry shill but the truth is that as a lifelong zombie fanatic, this stuff delivers.

Mike, yes it is. For me anyway. I am a HUGE fan of zombies and have been since I saw my first zombie flick in the 70s when I was around 4 years old. This walking dead series is NOT the first zombie themed tv series that was ever talked about. There has been talk of one since the 80s. There was supposed to be a "night of the living dead" tv series but it never came about. Then there was a "return of the living dead" tv series but it didn't come out either. I have been chomping at the bit for a zombie tv series since the 80s and now that it is finally here, yes it WAS too hard. Over 20 years I have been waiting and I just couldn't wait anymore. Nonetheless I do intend on watching the entire series on AMC when it aires and I hope and urge everyone else to do the same. I got to say that based on the first episode alone, it WAS worth the wait.

If you respect the creators and AMC, why not just wait until it's on? Is that so hard?

Sumpin tells me this was leaked by AMC as a stealth marketing campaign... and may I say, a brilliant campaign at that. I never would have heard of it otherwise, and I'll definitely set my DVR to catch the series.See studios? P2P can be your greatest ally, if you let it.

I strongly urge and plead with EVERYONE who watched this to PLEASE watch it again on AMC on halloween. The only way that the series will be picked up for another season is if it does well in the ratings. AMC only has picked up 6 episodes for the first season. If it does well enough, the second season will be at least 13 episodes. On another note, it kicked ass! Lots of gore for a show on regular tv.
