Seems like the AllofMP3 has a cousin, and I’m sure the MPAA is none too happy.
After years of seemingly undue pressure from the RIAA and its contacts at the WTO, AllofMP3 was shut down some time ago despite the fact that it fully complied with Russian copyright laws and paid the standard 15% Russian licensing fee that applies to online music to the Russian Organization for Multimedia & Digital Systems(ROMS).But, unfortunately for AllOfMP3 the RIAA doesn’t recognize ROM’s legitimacy and refused to receive the royalties it collected.
The now defunct AllofMP3 site was rebranded and relaunched as MP3Fiesta some time ago, and now it seems that MP3Fiesta has decided to launch a new movie downloading service called ZML that is certain to rankle a few feathers in Hollywood.
From the AllofMP3 forums:
Dear User!
MP3Fiesta is planning to launch a new project – downloading films via Internet.
In this regard we kindly ask you to answer a couple of simple questions, so that we could arrange our new service in the most convenient, useful and attractive way for you.
We highly appreciate your time, that’s why, having answered the questions, you’ll receive a pleasant bonus from MP3Fiesta Team.
To start with the questionnaire, please, click the following link: Link removed
It too promises to pay the standard licensing fee to the Russian Organization for multimedia and Digital Systems (ROMS), but I’m certain that the MPAA will do as the RIAA did and will both refuse to recognize as well as make a few phone calls to its lobbyists in Washington DC.
From ZML’s terms of service:
6 Copyrights
6.1 All materials presented on this site are available for the distribution over the Internet in accordance with the license of the Russian Organization for multimedia and Digital Systems (ROMS) and intended for personal use only. Further distribution, resale or broadcasting is strictly prohibited.
6.2 The Site remunerates the fees for every downloaded File in accordance with the license agreement.
6.3 All trade marks, trade names, company names, slogans, logos, and any other copyright items, which can be seen on the Site pages in various contexts, are the property of their respective owners. You have no right to copy, distribute or use them without written permission from the owners.
6.4 The Client has no right to download any Files from the Site if this violates the law of his country.
6.5 The Site Administration can not control actions of each Client therefore the Client is responsible for any illegitimate use of the Site’s materials or/and Services.
An nice little legal escape clause for them if you will, is number 6.4, which says that you can’t buy movies on the site if it violates the laws of your country. I don’t know if this will hold up in court or not, but it will make an interesting test of net neutrality. Will sites really have to be in compliance with every legal jurisdiction under the sun or will countries finally be forced to acknowledge reality and try to make copyright laws more sensible and uniform?
In the meantime for those of you who live in countries that do allow you to buy DVDs for $2 bucks a pop from a Russian site, “ZML – the Movie Library” offers “Over 1500 movies with a premium DVD quality.”
From the site:
Thousands of hot movies that you dare to watch. All movies are compatible with every device you use including iPod, PDA, PC, DVD & DivX players. Lowest prices on the web ever. Start downloading movies from $1.99 only! Absolutely no limits. You can download as much as you want with incredibly high speed. No additional software required. Click on a link, download a movie and watch it via your favourite player(s).
The selection seems pretty decent, it has relatively new releases like “The Simpsons Movie,” and the “Transformers,” the rest of the titles are somewhat dated like “Sin City” and “Casino Royale,” but I guess any good DVD “store” stocks the the old as well as the new.
So if you don’t feel like downloading DVDs from your favorite BitTorrent tracker site, maybe ZML’s the place for you. You can’t get much cheaper than $1.99.

i am not thrilled with the fact that the downloads are only in divx i was hoping they would be in iso or VIDEO_TS format.
Paying to download is lame.
But I’m sure as heck that lots of people from everywhere will see this as a legitimate way to get movies for a low price and they’ll go for it.
