Sadly considering the recent decision in politics I see the outlook of filesharing in Canada as bleak. For a while there has been talk of passing laws that are very similar to the DMCA the only thing that has held it back is the constant wave of elections. If a party were to win a majority I am sure that copyright reform will happen in a terrible way. The only hope that I hold for Canada's copyright is the fact that very few Canadian musicians support the new measures. That includes the labels mentioned in this article as well as some bigger names who are trying to represent themselves as Canadian Music creators Coalition. Most of the current Canadian big wigs are part of it and I think they arr out biggest hope. The only other possibility is that a major news outlet starts covering the ridiculous lobbying going on in parliament exposing the amount of money spent by the music industry to bribe our politicians. But knowing the news conglomerates its in their best interest to shut up.

We already pay a media tax on any recordable media like CDs DVDs HDDs etc. that goes towards the 'artists' although in reality it's split between the copyright holders not the actual artists the pod tax is just a money grab to make Apple sweat because they couldn't get them to raise the prices of certain songs as this only applies to apple products my RCA Lyra is completely immune to this pseudo-tax.

However CIRA actually standing up against something that would only hurt the legal purchase of music in any form is surprising as mentioned in the article I always thought of them as an advertising plug for the RIAA in Canada and pretty much ignored them.

Strange days indeed...
