RIAA Subpoenas 19 George Washington University Students

No rest for the wicked as the RIAA's legal team demands the university gives up the identify of those it accuses of illegal file-sharing.

According to CNet.com, last Thursday US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a federal judge in Washington D.C., approved 19 subpoenas to identify the names of people listed as defendants in a campus piracy lawsuit initiated by the RIAA.

She told GWU that it must tell those behind the IP addresses in question within 5 business days, and that it and the "John Doe's" have 25 days to challenge the subpoenas.

The list of John Doe IPs reads as follows:

It seems like the RIAA may be even more desperate than usual, having a number of high profile lawsuits running concurrently. What's so very sad though is that it just doesn't see that each of its wins have actually been a loss.

Each so-called win only angers music fans even more to the point that music artists become embroiled in the conflict. Music artists who belong to the major record labels are taken to task by fans who don't like the fact that they are supported by the very people ripping them off at the checkout counter as well as in the courtroom. Too boot, in many instances the record labels are also ripping off the music artists as well!

Sooner or later this will come back to haunt the RIAA, and I think we may be already seeing it with word that Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Jamiroquai, and Madonna are all either considering dumping the use of a major record label or are considering doing so.

Moreover, going after college students can never be good for business, but then again the RIAA has been trying to figure out just what its business is for 8 years now (Here's a hint RIAA, it's not making CDs anymore).
