Trent Reznor Tells Australian Crowd to 'Steal My Music'

posted by soulxtc in file sharing // 297 days 3 hours 4 minutes ago

Says that's what record labels get for not dropping their CD prices like he asked.

I mentioned previously how NIN frontman Trent Reznor was both shocked and angered to discover on a visit to an Australian CD retailer that his latest release, "Year Zero," was retailing for almost $30 USD.

Calling the price "absurd," he was even more shocked after hearing from a studio rep why it is that his CD was retailing for such an enormous amount.

"It's because we know you have a real core audience that will pay whatever it costs when you put something out - you know, true fans," he said according to Reznor."It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy."

He couldn't believe that they were basically ripping off his true fans, the guys and gals who actually cared enough about the band to support them.

"No wonder people steal music," he said.

Well, on a recent trip back to Australia after his much publicized comments, he asked the audience during one of his performances if things had changed, if the price of his latest CD had come down at all as he had requested.

The answer was a resounding "No," to which he then replied that they should then go ahead and steal it (i.e. illegally download it).

"Steal it," he said. "Steal away. Steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin’. Because one way or another, these motherf---ers will get it through their head that they’re ripping people off and that’s not right.

And just when you though Trent couldn't get any cooler.

Anyways, here's a clip with an audio transcript that follows.

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT

Lots and lots and lots of familiar faces..Is there anybody here tonight that wasn’t at Luna Park last night? I talked a lot last night; tonight I’m not talking so much. I know, I know....I woke up this morning and I forgot where I was for a minute.

I remember last time I was here, I was doing a lot of complaining about the ridiculous prices of CDs down here. And the story got picked up and got carried all around the world and now my record label all around the world hates me because I yelled back at them - called them out for being greedy f---ing assholes

I didn’t get the chance to check – has the price come down at all?

[Crowd yells “NO”]

I see a no, a no, a no, a no…anybody…has anyone seen the price come down?

[Crowd yells “NO” again]

Okay, well, you know what that means - STEAL IT. Steal away. Steal and steal and steal some more and give it to all your friends and keep on stealin’. Because one way or another, these motherf---ers will get it through their head that they’re ripping people off and that’s not right.

Bet we didn’t make any friends by saying that.

(I'd disagree...........THX to Maths for the heads up)
