Mac BitTorrent users can now enjoy the same engine that powers the popular Windows version.
uTorrent has been working on a Mac version for some time now. An alpha build leaked way back in September of 2008 and a beta version was officially released a few months later.
But, it was until now that uTorrent released a stable 1.0 Mac version.
“With this release we are bringing the same engine that powers our popular µTorrent for Windows client to the Mac OSX platform,” it says. “Our native cocoa client was built to the same design principles: lightweight, feature rich and fast. It contains all the protocol enhancements µTorrent is known for, including DHT, PEX, Protocol Encryption and the new uTP transport – while delivering fast downloads in a simple, resource friendly package.”
For Mac users it’s welcome news to finally have stable version to use, though some will still prefer the Transmission BitTorrent client instead. Transmission even released an updated 2.0 version about a week ago with code it claims is “faster and smarter” than ever.
Either way, it’s welcome news for Mac users.
Stay tuned.
