Old school favorite acquired by new school Swedes to take back the MPAA and RIAA’s biggest file-sharing victory to date.
For those of you who don’t remember, Suprnova.org was a Slovenia-based BitTorrent tracker site that was started in late 2002 by Slovenian teen Andrej Preston, aka Sloncek, and in its prime was widely considered to be the best one around, if not in fact the very heart and soul of the BitTorrent community itself.
Suprnova.org was eventually shut down on December 19th, 2004 after its ISP was raided and servers seized by Slovenian police. The resulting publicity in the press. mounting legal threats, and hassling by police, all convinced Sloncek that it was time to throw in the towel and go back to being “normal.”
He notes:
In early December, Reuters did an article on me, and many Slovenian newspapers jumped on the story. So I ended up reading about myself in Slovenian newspapers. And right about that time, I had a feeling something was wrong. I do not really know what the feeling was or where it was coming from, but I decided it was time to take SuprNova.org offline.
Since then nothing happened, and I hope it stays that way. This has been a huge pressure on me and I think it left some permanent marks on me. I hope none of you will ever have to go through something like this.
He has since decided to donate the domain to the Pirate Bay on the condition that they don’t change its appearance completely, and that it would continue to be a public tracker site, demands which the Pirate Bay has apparently assured him they will adhere to.
According to Brokep over at the Pirate Bay, the main point of relaunching the site is to “retake” the RIAA and MPAA’s biggest file-sharing victory ever” and prove to them once and for all that they’re fighting a losing battle against file-sharing.
“Now, a couple of years later, we felt it was high time to get the site back up, says Brokep in a posting on his blog. “We talked to Sloncek and he gave us the domain and the old graphics and so on that he had so we could rebuild the site. It will not be competing directly with TPB – they will complement each other. They will be the best of friends! When the site is up you can all see the differences. SN is an search index, TPB is a tracker with own content posted on the site. It’s higher quality of information on TPB and on SN there will be more content. There is over 1 million torrents on SN already.”
He also take a moment to point out the following:
- No, we did not BUY the domain. Sloncek gave us the domain to put SuprNova up again.
- No, we will not run a separate tracker for SuprNova. We already have The Pirate Bay system and it’s just not smart for us to put up another.
- Yes, the site will be ready very soon, probably within a week.
He also put up a picture of a new logo for the site as shown below.

This relaunching of SuprNova is great news for the BitTorrent community, and more than being simply a taste of nostalgia for the “old schoolers” among us, it proves that file-sharing is as resilient as ever and that for all its efforts the MPAA and RIAA will never succeed in eliminating it no matter how hard it tries. You can’t fight progress.
BTW, I guess at last we know what the Pirate Bay’s cryptic “Its coming” statements were all about, with “The past, the present and the future” all coming together and that they “…will radiate for weeks.” Nothing radiates quite like a supernova, and nothing more eloquently combines the past, present, and future of BitTorrent as will SuperNova’s return.
Kudos again to the world’s foremost pirates at the Pirate Bay for doing their part to keep file-sharing alive and well.

@axlman….yeah I don’t think supernova will EVER be a pay site if TPB has anything to do with it…. LOL!
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Stay alive and well P2Pers. Keep it going keep sharing your files keep the revolution and ideas of the people alive. The world is controlled by the MAJORITY not by the enforcers. TPB will take it back while the RIAA and MPAA still run on their hamster wheel of success. < (^^)> Keep going P2Pers ::Cuddles::
