Probably most don't realize it but the original reason for the FCC was to make sure that radio and TV stations didn't interfere with each others' signals. That's right. It was purely technical. Monster stations like KDKA in Pittsburgh (the first radio station in the country) needed to be reigned in. Their 50000+ watt signals were drowning other stations out. So stations had to be regulated in power and needed to stay on frequency.

So much for the History lesson. Somewhere along the line the FCC became the moral watchdog for TV and terrestrial radio. Right wing groups didn't want "dirty" words to be said. Nudity (on TV) was a no-no. Now even the Left Wing demands that the right words be said (witness the recent burning at the stake of Don Imus).

Now enter the big networks. You'd think that after Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" a few years ago they'd know better. The FCC drove terrestrial radio to the heavens (satellite). Now only those living in the technological stone age listen to radio that comes over the airwaves.

Satellite file sharing. Hmmmm. I wonder if it's possible?
