Tries to capitalize on recent news of the new Harry Potter book showing up on BitTorrent.
It looks as though another copyright lobbying organization is trying to take advantage of recent reports of the new Harry Potter book winding up on BitTorrent tracker sites everywhere with MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman lamenting how piracy affects all intellectual property industries.
Calling music, movies, publishing, computer software, and other creative outputs the “…foundations(s) of our modern information economy,” Glickman emphasizes that “Reports on the theft of the latest installment of Harry Potter underscores that robbery of intellectual property extends far beyond” them all.
He goes on to write:
Intellectual property industries together account for nearly thirteen percent of all U.S. economic growth. We simply cannot afford to leave these very serious crimes unchecked. The cost to the world film community alone exceeds $18 billion annually. That is a significant loss in terms of jobs and economic benefits. Government, law enforcement, technology and entertainment leaders have a responsibility to work together to prevent individuals from erasing with the click of a mouse, the time, investment, creativity and heart put into these products. Intellectual property theft is an act with serious consequences for our economy and our information society.
So interestingly enough, the leaking of the Harry Potter book quickly digresses into annual losses of the “world film community,” which have been disproven time and time again. Just because a movie is download or purchased illegally doesn’t always mean that a person would have otherwise gone to see it. “Disturbia” comes to mind.
Kinda selfish don’t you think Dan?
In any event, it follows on the heels of the IFPI, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, criticizing the Pirate Bay for having been “involved” in the Harry Potter leak and similarly trying to tie in the piracy of books to that of music, movies, etc..
How many pirated books have any of you downloaded? Furthermore, who can stomach sitting in front of the computer screen even longer than the norm to take in a 759 page novel, let alone one that is comprised of mediocre digital images?
They say greta minds think alike but, perhaps in this case quite the opposite is true.

1. books are not the mpaa’s domain.
2. the book is not stolen because there is nothing missing.
3. eat the losses and find some other way to promote sales like joining forces with travel agencies to make automatic registerations for a chance for all expense paid vacations by buying the book
Ok…
The only thing I must say is Im laughing hard. Who cares? The big “Harry Pothead” fans will buy the book anyway. Why bother over some stupid book? Why?
