Apparently they might be able to track the person who took every single shoot of the book using some me<x>tadata :

Yet they are trying to take involve tpb into this instead of trying to find the guy (not that I think he deserve to be tracked).

O.K. what exactly was leaked? The text of the whole book? The only way for this to be worth downloading would be if it were an audio book. With a book one has to print out the whole text (unless you plan on reading off the screen which most people wouldn't). The cost of printing would far exceed that of buying the book. (If this were true of music there would be no problem of copyright infringement either). So what was leaked? The ending? Illustrations? People are still going to want to buy the book. This is more like publicity than "leaking."

That Boing article about the camera type and me<x>ta data almost makes it sound like Canon wants to help in trying to track the photographer down! Maybe it's just an employee at Canon bragging about what they can do and not what the company as a whole thinks but wow..

They will lose sales if their cameras are seen as a security leak and even more importantly folks who want to share like that in the future will learn to strip me<x>tadata from their files. They could have batch-stripped all of the images of that book in a few minutes with a free program like jstrip. Hopefully there are no other serial numbers elsewhere in the file.

This isn't even about something illegal it's basic privacy rights here.

Leaking books is bullshit. If youre too cheap to buy a new book that you want to read and support the hard work of the aurthor then youre truely a low life. Take a long look in the mirror and ask youself who is really the bad guy. The person who wants to protect their hard work and you the person who thinks youre so special you shouldnt have to pay for something you want. God smoetimes I hate P2P brats.

@Mels
Is it really a book if its just pictures? My point exactly.

People may grab it to see what happens perhaps but ultimtaely I think people who actually READ will want the real deal in their hands.

I dont know anybody who's ever read a book on a monitor.

Do any of you?

I've read one book that was done like Harry Potter jpg photos of its pages except there was no hand they used something else to hold the pages down. It was fine and I got to read the book when it wasn't available to me in another way. I've read books at Google and tech manuals in Adobe or CHM formats networking html page creation and a few periodicals in those formats too.

I'm a sad case I rarely read hard books now or I start to read but don't finish. I'm way in front of the screen always like Weird Al is these days except I'm Furry and nerdy.. :)
