"It seems to be out of step with commercial reality" said Anthony Ball executive manager of policy for Clubs NSW which represents more than 1300 clubs in the state. "If you are going to increase by that much clubs will simply make the choice of unplugging the music."

This is exactly what will happen too! There is NO WAY a club owner is going to pay that much and then not even have the place full of people....but even if it was full of people....it would STILL not be worth it.

I wonder if they can just use independant artists that give their permission to use it in the clubs?Mabye it would be a way to break the back of this monster they call the PPCA.

My guess is that you will see allot more clubs hire local artist to play live rather then use prerecorded music. For 500$ you can pay for a decent gig. Anyway as always it seems the music industry is killing their free marketing avenues and hoping that they will still survive under the ridiculous fees. I hope that this is just another nail in the coffin for artist that haven't realized that theres other ways of turning a profit.

Them getting more local independant artists is realistically the best thing to happen because it will crush conglomerates like PPCA RIAA BPI and so on...But the transition to such will be very rough.
