Michael Moore’s ‘SiCKO’ Trailer To Be Projected on Buildings Across the Country Today!

Will be projected with full sound and subtitles on the outside of buildings near the headquarters of leading HMOs, insurance companies and hospitals in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Oakland from sundown to 1:00 a.m. EST.

In a move typical of the ever resourceful Weinsten brothers and Michael Moore, who also knows how to stir up trouble and create good publicity for his projects, it’s been announced today that a trailer for the new movie “Sicko,” an indictment of the US healthcare system directed by Moore and released by The Weinstein Company, will be projected with full sound and subtitles on the outside of buildings near the headquarters of leading HMOs, insurance companies and hospitals in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Oakland from sundown to 1:00 a.m. EST.

The movie is a scathing rebuke of the way the healthcare system is run in the US and how profits take precedence over care. The movies points out that the minimization of treating the sick and the injured to minimize expenditures by HMOs and others has led to a preoccupation with expenses that maximizes an acceptable level of pain and suffering.

Opening with profiles of several ordinary Americans whose lives have been disrupted, shattered, and-in some cases-ended by health care catastrophe, the film makes clear that the crisis doesn’t only affect the 47 million uninsured citizens-millions of others who dutifully pay their premiums often get strangled by bureaucratic red tape as well.

After detailing just how the system got into such a mess (the short answer: profits and Nixon), we are whisked around the world, visiting countries including Canada, Great Britain and France, where all citizens receive free medical benefits. Finally, Moore gathers a group of 9/11 heroes — rescue workers now suffering from debilitating illnesses who have been denied medical attention in the US. He takes them to a most unexpected place, and in addition to finally receiving care, they also engage in some unexpected diplomacy.

“Sicko” has already created waves by Moore’s fears that it may be seized by the US Treasury Dept. because some of the film was shot in Cuba which is still the subject of a decades long embargo by the US. He recently took the time to stash a copy of the movie in Canada so as to avoid the possibility of it being lost forever if seized by the authorities.

Also, the movie made headlines a few weeks ago after it was leaked to BitTorrent tracker sites and P2P networks well ahead of the June 29th nationwide theater release. Much to the chagrin I’m sure of the The Weinstein Company, Michael Moore has already come forward to say that he doesn’t care if people illegally share his new movie so long as people aren’t profiting from it.

Here’s a list of the places at which the trailer will be projected:

LOS ANGELES

Projection Site: 4343 W. Sunset Blvd. Locations of interest nearby:

NEW YORK

SAN FRANCISCO

OAKLAND

CHICAGO

Though not a big fan of his previous work due to his penchant for skewing his “investigation” to his opinion, I think we can all agree on the fact that our healthcare system is broken and in great need for reform. Moore fan or not, change is needed.

The problem is too many ignorant people will see the film without actually knowing how the system works and say “yeah damnit that is a great film we need that in this country” as he goes on to state how awesome canadas health “care” industry is. Never minding the fact that you have to wait a year or two for minor procedures and operations.

It would cost trillions of dollars for a nationalized healthcare system and it would never work. I am not saying some things do not need to be addressed or changed but in light of all the propaganda there may be *some* truths; too bad they will be skewered and distorted out of being remotely reasonable.

I may not be a fan of him and i’m a bit skeptical when it comes to documentairies with to much emotions in it (often so for Michael Moore ‘s films ) but i guess you need to that sometimes to get the truth heard .
