Michael Moore's new documentary "Sicko" leaked on BitTorrent

Won't have to worry about copies getting seized by the Feds after all as his new controversial film makes its way around BitTorrent tracker sites everywhere.

A couple of days ago it was reported that Michael Moore had decided to stash a copy of his latest and greatest documentary "Sicko," an apparently scathing expose on the US healthcare system, in Canada just in case the Feds decided to confiscate it.

He feared such a seizure because of the fact that part of the documentary was filmed in Cuba without proper authorization from the US Treasury Department. Its illegal for US citizens to travel to Cuba because of a trade embargo in place since 1962.

Moore insists he hasn't broken any laws because he traveled to Cuba for a "journalistic endeavor."

"We brought back 15 minutes of the movie and we're concerned about any possible confiscation efforts," Moore told a news conference in New York.

"We took measures a few weeks ago to place a master copy of this film in Canada so if they did take our negative we would have a duplicate negative of this film in Canada."

Well, it would seem his concerns are no longer warranted because a DVDSCR of the film, the most magical download of them all(Oscar season anyone?), has appeared on BitTorrent tracker sites for all the world to see.

So now, even if the Treasury Dept does decide to seize his film, it looks like there will be plenty of copies to go around.

Moore's stance on file-sharing is that it's okay so as long people aren't profiting from it. He feels that the message behind his films are what's most importnat, and that he does well enough financially that he's more concerned with spreading ideas than he is with ensuring that everybody properly pays to hear them.

You gotta love P2P.

  • #1    why would the feds want to take the film? what threat does it pose to the feds it isnt like it is acase of plagiarism of an existing movie (the black album is to the beatles white album) or it is revealing national security secrets?

  • #3    Just registered 5 minutes ago to make this comment. You are both wrong. He is afraid the Feds are going to take away the film because 15 minutes of it was shot in Cuba. Under law it is illegal for anyone to travel there without the government's permission. He went there under a technicality, for "journalistic endeavors", the legality of which is marginal. Needless to say, any anti government message (which the film is ripe with) is enough fodder to justify a government seizure of said film. I wouldn't be surprised if it did get confiscated though.

  • #4    Yah but, he has a history of making big "headline waves" every time a new documentary of his comes out. Granted his subject mater is always controversial and therefore could the reason why but, it could also be argues that he has to sell his movie as well and the press sure doesnt hurt matters.

I mean the Feds wouldnt seize his movie just because he filmed part of it in Cuba. I could be wrong but, the Treasury folks would have the ACLU all over their asses.

Either way, it's out there for the whole wide world to see now so he wont have to worry about people seeing it.

  • #7    Oh BTW, the government will damn well do whatever they want when it may effect their money scams. They try hard to keep the real information out of the zombie American heads. The revolution draws near! our government is EVIL and they think we are all just cogs in the machine. Im sure the next time Moore goes to the doctor they will give him cancer.

  • #8    LOlol......Mels you so crazy......the movie is pretty darn good though. Theres a scene where a lady starts cryign because an inhaler she scrimps and saves up for each month is 120 bucks a pop in the US, and she uses 2 a month.

In cuba theyre frickin 5 CENTS EACH! I kid you not,she was pissed off and crying all at the same time. Pretty frickin sad.

  • #9    so, um not to derail the thread or anything, but i never thought to ask why theres an embargo on cuba. i was always told its because they are commies, but then why the fuck do we trade with china then?

  • #10    Its because they seized and then nationalized a large number of american facilities in Cuba when Fidel took over. The US has been demanding compensation ever since.

  • #11    ok so they take the film

there is another copy they can make another copy and republish it.

also movies dont have to be real so even a documentary could be passed of as fictional work

  • #12    I agree with Moore. If he isn't doing this for money then why do they accuse him? This is not fair!
