Safari 3 BETA for Windows

Now Windows users have access to the browser that Jobs claims is twice as fast as any of its competitors.

Apple released a new public beta version of its Safari browser for Windows-based PCs today, pitting it against IE and Firefox for dominance in the web browser market. Apple CEO Steve Jobs claims Safari performs twice as fast as any of its competitors.

Macs have about 5% of the world’s browser market share with more than 18 million users, Jobs said. IE has a 78% share, while Firefox has about 15% and growing.

The strategy is most likely intended to get more people to use Macs, much like how iPod media players and iTunes player and store were also made to be windows compatible.

“Safari is another Trojan horse that introduces an innovation of Apple to the Windows community and entices them to the Mac platform,” said Tim Bajarin, an industry analyst at Creative Strategies, a technology consultancy.

Additionally, Jobs announced that the soon to be released iPhone(June 29th at 6pm) will run on Safari, meaning that any application developed to run on Safari will be able to run on the iPhone.

By making Safari available to Windows users it means that the iPhone will be more readily accessible by a wider audience and that they too will be able to make the most use of it.

Opera definitely SEEMS faster than firefox… I mean the pages seem to render faster and stuff. But that’s just from looking at it. I haven’t actually done any research or anything :P Someone should get some benchmarks

Firefox isn’t necessarily faster than IE. And Opera caches better than any other browsers so it might seem faster. I’ve seen a page that’s 3 months old with Opera.

Mhh… I would say try all 3 Browser on an old and on a new Computer! You will see that Opera is realy faster (not only because of caching).I used a P III 500 and a Core2Duo 24 both with XP SP2.

Interesting. I was under the impression that Firefox was the fastest. Just might have to check it out.
