New AllPeers v0.60 bundled with Firefox

Adds new features, makes it easier to add friends and family to share files with, and combines Firefox web browser and the AllPeers add-on in a single download.

With previous versions of AllPeers it was somewhat difficult to try and get new friends and family connected to to your AllPeers file and data sharing network but, with the latest v0.60 release it has been bundled with Firefox to make it even easier to get others connected.

Instead of having to guide them through a new browser and plugin installation, it’s now been simplified to a one-step download operation. New users can now simultaneously switch to the more secure browser while gaining the ability to join a private file-sharing network with AllPeers.

They’ve also included a new feature that allows you to import your contacts from some of the more popular e-mail programs and sites like Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo so you don’t have to enter all of them by hand.

They’ve also got a first cut of their upcoming “Always On” service, which will let you upload files in encrypted form to a server so that your contacts are able to download them even if you’re not online. In the meantime “Always On” only works when you share by e-mail.

“Approximately 10% of new AllPeers users download Firefox in order to install our application,” explained Cedric Maloux, CEO and co-founder of AllPeers. “The popularity of our application’s features has helped AllPeers achieve an organic growth rate of one new user every two minutes, and we expect this rate to accelerate considerably with the added ease of installation afforded by the new bundle. We’re excited to make it even easier for new users to experience AllPeers and Firefox.”

AllPeers allows users to use the speed and simplicity of the BitTorrent protocol to transfer files between family and friends, eliminating the need to upload files to a central server. It also enables users to share media and data privately and securely, an important characteristic in light of ongoing crackdowns by the MPAA, RIAA, and other copyright enforcement organizations.

It is an especially useful program for college students and other individuals whose networks are monitored for the use of P2P and file-sharing programs.
