Will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user’s widescreen TV.

Apple continues to dominate the headlines today as Steve Jobs makes another announcement while attending the All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, CA, this time announcing that the new Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user’s widescreen TV.

Earlier it was mentioned how they were launching iTunes U and iTunes Plus, two new separate sections of Apple’s iTunes, the former being dedicated
to free content such as course lectures, language lessons, lab demonstrations, sports highlights and campus tours provided by top US colleges and universities, and the latter to DRM-free music downloads.

Now Jobs has announced that the new Apple TV will allow users the ability to find and watch free videos from YouTube in the comfort of their own living room.

“This is the first time users can easily browse, find and watch YouTube videos right from their living room couch, and it’s really, really fun,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the Internet onto the widescreen TV in your living room.”

Thousands of the most current and popular YouTube videos will be available on Apple TV at launch in mid-June, with YouTube adding thousands more each week until the full YouTube catalog is available this fall. Apple TV hopes to provide users with can easy means of navigating through YouTube’s familiar video browsing categories or to search for specific videos. YouTube members can also log-in to their YouTube accounts on Apple TV to view and save their favorite videos.

This development is an easy way to garner instant content selections for Apple TV, with YouTube’s millions of user-generated videos, not to mention the plethora of illegally posted copyrighted material, making for a nice, ROYALTY FREE, library of content for users to watch and enjoy.

I was admittedly skeptical at first but, wouldn’t it be great to watch some “Dax flame” with some friends over a few beers? Or how about the famous “dancing little superstar” in the clip below?

this is really pointless you can already do this with a modded xbox or just burn it do a dvd with free programs for computer. not to mention that youtube videos are inheritly crappy quality why watch a youtube video on your widescreen 60 inch hdtv when all you can see is pixels and hear static etc. there is no point. they are not proving anything by doing this.
