PWN Last.fm Makes it Easier to Download Free Music

Greasemonkey script for Firefox adds “Torrents from IsoHunt” section to artist pages.

Many people use free music streaming sites like Pandora and Last.fm as quick, convenient, and free alternatives to downloading music either legally or illegally.

Not many are aware however, that there’s a handy Greasemonkey script called PWN Last.fm that adds a “Torrents from IsoHunt” section to artist pages on Last.fm, making it easier than ever to download your favorite music.

Notice how it looks before…

and after.

So how do you install it?

1. Download and install Mozilla’s Firefox if you aren’t using it already.

.

2. Download and install the Greasemonkey Firefox extension.

123

.

It’s similar to other Greasemonkey scripts like “Pirates the Amazon” which embeds links from BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay alongside legal purchase links on Amazon.com product pages.

(OiNK Plus also deserves an honorable mention, though it only enhances browsing on BitTorrent tracker sites)

Stay tuned.

    nice idea .

an easier way i found that insures i get just the song i want is to rip the song from the browser cache folder.

    on the mac os x

    1. install modify headers. (this allows modifying http headers and can potentially be used with all headers).

also looks like google chrome uses the firefox resources or is based on firefox.

    2. either the tools menu and select modify headers or chrome://modifyheaders/content/modifyheaders.xul to open the modify headers window.

    3. make sure there is an entry for Cache-Control and set the max-age = 999999999999.

that will basically set the life of the contents of the cache folder to forever.

    4. about:cache will tell you where it is

    the default location is

    /Users/username/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/my2o41wj.default/Cache

    5. you will see some files being created but the playing song is the file that keeps getting bigger.

you may want to set the view to by size and set it to view to largest first so the file will be easier to spot.

let the song play to the end then rename the top file to include .mp3 and you have your song.

now me having said this the folks of last fm and or the artists that supply content to them may see this hole and demand a fix either by doing what hula does and not allow it to cache at all or reduce the bitrate to a crappy level.

Or of your you could just get some stream ripping software and download the songs directly from Last.fm’s site.
