Get-Torrent will help you “get torrents” alright, that and a mess of malware and spyware in the process.
Somebody’s making big bucks out there and it’s coming at the expense of unsuspecting users who are no doubt new to the BitTorrent community.
The people behind it herald it’s “5 star rating” as though it’s a fancy hotel where the client server puts a mint on the pillows of each of your downloads. It even goes so far as to try and credit the review to TorrentFreak using the same font and even the same coloring so as to try and trick those with a passive familiarity of BitTorrent client servers that it has a hint of legitimacy.
It makes the bold claim that it doesn’t install any “spyware, adware, or malware,” that it’s just “100% FREE P2P: but, this was also the case with other malicious BitTorrent client servers like Torrent101 & Bitroll, which each claim “No Spyware! Safe and Secure!” on their sites.
If they were really smart they’d lose the whole “Download Free Movies, Free DVD’s, Free Music, Free Games, and More” shtick, I mean isn’t that what BitTorrent and other P2P and file-sharing programs are all about? Getting free stuff? If you actually have to advertise that that’s what it’s for then you’re obviously intending for it to be used by those who have a limited knowledge of how to “get free stuff.” It’s a dead giveaway that something’s just not right, and “If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck” right?
It’s downright shameful that somebody would try to take advantage of people who no doubt heard about BitTorrent and wanted to check it out but, I guess there’s always a bad apple in every bunch and just emphasizes the fact that you really must do your homework before you install ANYTHING on your PC.
