Guns N’ Roses Sued for Copyright Infringement

Accused of unauthorized usage of two songs by German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss.

I get no greater pleasure than when I read of either record labels or mega rock star bands getting accused for copyright infringement, especially since they profit from the theft unlike the file-sharers they routinely target.

According to the lawsuit, the band illegally used parts of two songs by German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss, “Wherever You Are” and “A Strangely Isolated Place,” in the song “Riad N’ the Bedouins” for its recent album.

Also named in the suit is Universal Music Group’s Interscope-Geffen A&M label.

It just goes to show that copyright laws can be tough to understand, even if your a multi-billion dollar corporation with an army of lawyers on retainer.

Stay tuned.

“You Are” is abbreviated as “you’re” in English, not “your”.

Now what should happen, in a just world, is the same ratio be used against them, in terms of income vs. amount ordered to pay back, as it did to Jamie Thomas.

So figure out the ratio and make that the extreme penalty and see how they feel when the tables are turned. Then maybe they will admit that the DMCA is completely ridiculous and over the top.
