First in a series reviewing popular Usenet destinations.
After detailing “How to Download from Newsgroups” it seems only proper to begin reviewing some of the sites I mentioned. For with copyright holders and govts around the globe joining focres to combat illegal file-sharing, safe and secure P2P alternatives have never been more relevant.
The first newsgroup indexing site I’d like to discuss is NZBMatrix. It requires simple registratyion and is free to use, and even has features that mimic popular BitTorrent tracker sites.
You can search by type of content, like TV or movies, and also by quality, be it BRRip, Xvid, or x264 for example.
It also has quick linsk for each that offer things like posters, IMDB info, and NFO files.
Where it gets better is with a VIP Account which requires a one-time fee of $12 dollars. Paying for things is usually anatheme to most file-sharers, but in this case it’s worth it for it gives you added features that are standard for most privat BitTorrent tracker sites. Plus, somebody has to pay for site maintenance, server costs, etc..
VIPs get access to the rquest system where they can actually make content requests. This is unhard of on most newsgroup indexing sites to be sure, and may convince some that it’s time to make the swicth from other P2P protocols, especially considering Usenet’s safety and security.
They also get to use the “release watcher” that notifies you when a particualr piece content is indexed.
Overall I’d have to say NZBMatrix – with a VIP Account – is one of the better newsgroup indexing sites out there.
